Product Description

Special Forces Colonel James Braddock (Chuck Norris) escapes from a Vietnamese POW camp and returns to base. He reluctantly joins a fact-finding mission trying to track down other MIAs. He soon becomes disgusted with the attitude of the higher ranks, and sets out on a daring mission to discover the real facts and free men he knows are still being held behind the lines.

From the Back Cover

American servicemen are still being held captive in Vietnam - and it's up to one man to bring them home in this blistering, fast-paced action/adventure starring martial arts superstar Chuck Norris. Following a daring escape from a Vietnamese POW camp, Special Forces Colonel James Braddock (Norris) is on a mission to locate and save remaining MIAs. Aided by a beautiful State Department official (Leonore Kasdorf) and a former Army buddy (M.Emmet Walsh), Braddock amasses top secret information and state-of-the-art weaponry. Now this one-man army is prepared to blast his way into Vietnam...but will he be able to blast his way back out?

One of the seemingly endless stream of `80s and `90s cheap action flicks starring the almost ubiquitous high kicking action hero Chuck Norris, this is a strong but not the best entry into his oeuvre.

Colonel Braddock is an ex prisoner of war, held by the Vietnamese long after the conflict ended. He knows there are more service men still held, officially listed as missing in action. He makes it his mission to return and rescue them.

It's a solid premise, and sets the scene for a decent action flick with the usual big stunts, explosions, fights and quips as Norris singlehandedly invades Vietnam, and this time the American wins the war he starts in Asia.

The first half of the film is a bit slow, punctuated by confusing flashbacks that try to set the scene, but fail utterly to do anything other than muddy the narrative. Things pick up when Norris sets out in Hanoi to get the information he needs in a tense and well paced episode, and the story really picks up when he sets out on his mission.

A decent brain at door beer and pizza film, delivering the right amount of action and humour without to much brain engagement needed. 4 stars.

Trivia.
1)Filmed right after_Missing in Action 2: The Beginning (1985), this film was supposed to be the sequel. However when the producers realized this film was the better of the two, they simply renamed them & made the other film a prequel to this. This explains why Steve Bing receives a credit for "characters" because he wrote the screenplay for what became the prequel.
2)In his autobiography, Chuck Norris stated that he made this film as a memorial honor of his younger brother Wieland, who was killed in the Vietnam War in 1970.
3)Aaron Norris (Chuck's Brother) was the stunt coordinator for the two sequels even though he was uncredited in the 2nd one, then he became the director of the last Missing in Action film.
4)William Sanderson was offered the role of Tuck but turned it down.
5)Jean - Claude Van Damme was a stuntman on this movie.

What's The Story.

I first saw this film way, way back in the 80s, when I was barely old enough to watch it legally. There's just something about a Chuck Norris film on video when you're a teenager - the man can't act, the plot's terrible, the action sequences contrived, and oh god that beard... but I loved it all the same. It's cheesy action nonsense at its very best - and by the way, Norris could take Seagal any time.

Chuck Norris, he of the Wooden School Of Acting, creates and wins 'The Vietnam War Part II'.

Sent to rescue US POW's from the evil orientals, he kills more baddies than he could carry bullets. There is a scene where he rises from beneath water, M60 belching bullets, that will stay with me forever!!

Escapism personified.
