Product Description

Jimmy has big dreams for his daughter Charlie. Well, one big dream: a huge wedding to a rich and handsome Greek. Actually, scrub that. Any Greek will do. Charlie would rather drown in a maggot-infested swamp, but what's new? She's never fitted in with things at home. Work, though, is a different story. Charlie's been promoted. She's now the funky studio manager at The Zone, an exclusive Total Body Emporium (that's a gym to you and me) where pop stars and plebs alike walk in to work out. Things are looking good and with the arrival of Karl, a multi-talented dancer, her love life's on the up too. However, with The Zone about to become the focus of a Channel Four reality show, the pressure is on. Charlie realises she has to raise her game, but she doesn't know the half of it. She may indeed be getting shagged senseless, but she's also about to get screwed something rotten. "MissFit" is a hilarious tale of keeping fit, fitting in, and one massively devious fit-up. Oh, and a fat Greek dad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful offering!, 23 Jun 2005
This review is from: Missfit (Paperback)
After reading the hilarious Marsha Mellow and Me, I was delighted to discover that Maria Beaumont had penned a second helping. Marsha Mellow was an amazing read, though I think Missfit has actually topped it.

Beaumont's wit and dry humour shines through in the book, making it a funny, unputdownable read. The characters are instantly pleasing (often not quite so!) and to be completely honest, it was great to find that the heroine, Charlie, is a regular girl from a regular household, just like the majority of us. The plot is brilliant and I was actually saddened when I finished it.

Please, Maria - write another! And quick!

3.0 out of 5 stars Some shining moments, 22 Nov 2007
By
Wyvernfriend (Dublin, Ireland) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Missfit (Paperback)
A high three stars for this, but compared to Marsha Mellow and Me it's not quite as good, or as funny. Charlie's Dad is a little too much sometimes and the accent is a bit heavy. Charlie works in a Gym, well a Total Body Emporioum as her boss likes to call it, called the Zone. her boss hates any sign of abnormality and The Zone is more of a place where fit people go to get fitter than anything else. It's populated by primadonnas and Beautiful People and that's just the staff!

When Charlie gets promoted to studio manager she suddenly realises who her friends are. When one of the customers gets a little too close she finds that not everything is what it seems. Her life gets more complicated when Channel Four decided to use them for a documentary.

It's all about life, in all it's messy glory and about being from a Greek Family and about Charlie finding out some truths about herself and the people around her. Not as funny or good as the first but not a bad read either.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Few Books Can Make You Laugh Out Loud!!., 13 April 2005
This review is from: Missfit (Paperback)
What a brilliant book!. Charlie takes you on such a hilarious journey that you just cannot put the book down. She has you hooked from Page 1. This book had me laughing out loud several times and it is a definite must read - a 5 star+!. Having read Maria Beaumont's first book, Marsha Mellow and Me, I knew I wouldnt't be disappointed, and I wasn't. Helen Fielding look over your shoulder - there's a new kid on the block!. I highly recommend Missfit!.
