Product Description

Would you like to live a beautiful life with less stuff?

This delightful collection of articles by Francine Jay, author of “The Joy of Less, A Minimalist Living Guide,” provides great inspiration to pare down your possessions. Jay breezes from practical topics, like “What’s in a Minimalist Kitchen” and “How Many Shoes are Enough,” to more philosophical musings, like what the Japanese or ancient Greeks can teach us about simple living.

Along with valuable tips and advice, the author shares her personal stories about decluttering and living with less. Her warmth, humor, and encouraging tone make you feel like you’re chatting with a good friend over a cup of coffee—a friend you’d love to invite over to clean out your closets!

These essays are a wonderful introduction to minimalist living, written by someone with a genuine passion for the topic. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your clutter, or disenchanted with consumerism, you’ll find a kindred soul (and a wealth of advice) in Miss Minimalist. Best of all: you’ll likely empty a drawer or two by the time you’ve finished reading!

To give you a picture of Miss Minimalist's life, the author has so few possessions, when her apartment was broken into, the thief only managed to make off with a change purse, a lipstick and their cd player. Maybe a little extreme for most of us, but if you're keen on the honed-down, ultra-minimalist approach, this might be for you.

The book's composed of short (1 - 3 page essays) on particular aspects of minimalist life. The average essay goes as follows: my husband and I used to have loads of (china/clothes/recipes/stuff) but then we realised we don't need all this stuff, so we got rid of it. Now we've got hardly anything! We're so happy!

Alas, her lifestyle and approach to home and family life are so removed from my own, I didn't find it quite as inspirational as I'd hoped. Would recommend you check out her website first, to see if her style is a good fit with yours.

Less is more 8 Feb 2012
By Anne B
Format:Kindle Edition
Once I had read this book, I was happy that I had purchased it as a kindle edition rather than as a paperback crammed onto my already stuffed bookshelves. This is a great little book offering inspiration and practical suggestions to a recovering pack rat like me. I tried to de-clutter last year but this book has encouraged me to go further. I now recognise that my stuff is getting in the way of my life and I love the `less is more' philosophy. There are suggestions for all areas of life such as wardrobes, books, holidays etc. There were some ideas I had come across before but there were many other suggestions that were new to me and I can't wait to implement them.

An enjoyable read 20 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed reading Miss Minimalist. It is well written, and for those who feel weighed down by their items and obligations it will quite possibly offer some good insights. I did find it inspiring, and the non-preaching tone is pleasant. The book offers some hands-on tips to managing your clutter as well as the motivation to do so.

What is minimalism then? Its eliminating the excess. Its asking why before you buy. Its embracing the concept of enough. Its living lightly and gracefully on the Earth. Its uncovering who you are when all of the logos, brand names, and clutter are stripped away. "e;
