5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful product when used correctly 20 Jun 2010
By JacqJacq - Published on
I have been using this product for about two years now. As I read the reviews written by other users I felt I had to write my own so that people would have an accurate review written by someone who has used the product more than one time. This product is wonderful WHEN USED CORRECTLY. Most people who try this product once or twice have the exact same impression of the product...they believe it leaves their hair wet all day and if they blow dry it their hair is left both crunchy and flaky. Now I will tell you why. You are making the classic mistake that most people make when 'trying out a product'; you have applied too much of the product to your hair in the hopes of forcing enough product into your hair so that it looks like a jeri-curl. This product is meant to be used sparingly, you are not suppose to use half of the jar on your head at once. No wonder your hair is 'crunchy', 'wet all day', 'flaky' and 'slimy' when you go to wash it out. I have thick and long hair (at least 4 inches past shoulder length) and I only use about a tablespoon full on my entire head. Once I've applied the Curly Pudding I apply a small amount of Curly Buttercreme (about a tablespoon) to ensure that my hair has a proper amount of oil on it to prevent it from being dry and brittle. I DO NOT wash my hair daily. Instead, the following day I spritz water onto my hair to moisten it slightly and I then apply a small amount of Curly Buttercreme, style to my satisfaction and I'm out the door. By the time I reach my destination my hair is dry.

Just to get an idea of how sparingly I use the product, a 16 ounce jar can usually last me about 3 months. I made the same mistake when I first began using the products, I put globs and globs of it in my hair and was irritated when my hair looked as though I had a severe case of dandruff. Once I figured out that the problem was me and not the product I found this to be the best item on the market and worth every penny. Two years later I'm as happy as can be with it and wouldn't consider using anything else. I have tried every product that Noodle Head makes and the majority of Carol's Daughter's products and they don't hold a candle to Miss Jessie's!

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from this product 7 Dec 2009

I purchased the MJCP after viewing the results on their website. I have natuaral, meaning hair without relaxer or any chemical processes. I normally wear my blown out afro style or braids...and my natural hair has a "s' curl pattern. "S" not "Z" I purchased...and for the price...buying from Amazon was by far the least expensive including shipping. The MJ website charges like 28 dollars and another 13 for shipping...should have been the first red flag. The stuff has the strongest grape scent ever, made my hands itch like crazy. After applying, following the video and written hair was a matted, flaky, grape smelling hard mess. My hair felt dry and was terrible. My 2 daughters have different hair types so I tried it on them as well...hoping that my hair was just too coarse...well same result. This product is shameful..full of baby oils and vaseline...terrible. Its a high priced tub of not good for my hair. I'm really dissapointed becuase of the cost and the advertisement that its made for ethnic hair of ALL types. Its not..its a waste of money..buyer beware. After my experience I looked at some youtube vids...and I saw I was not alone. much hype for such a poor product.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it....and I'm a 4a/3c mix.... 4 Sep 2011

This is the thing....most natural hair wearers have different textures in their hair and don't even know it. My hair is much softer and has a looser curl in the back (the last 1/3 of my head) and I must say, for those who think that 4a/b/c sistas can't experience the beauty in this product, you are wrong!

This is my routine....first, my hair is about 5 inches long (short) so I wash and deep condition, get my curly pudding and pure shea butter and sit down and apply it sparingly to my hair as I do coils or twists. I air-dry, wake up the next day, uncoil or untwist and my hair is a shiny piece of moisturized art. I get so many compliments from the shine and the smell (smells wonderful but it is a heavy scent). I think this product is better when used with another, such as SHEA moisture curl enhancing smoothie or a little KINKY CURLY gel or a little shea butter. Sometimes, I use pure Extra Virgin Olive Oil with it...not that it needs it but just to get that extra shine and moisture.

This product is not expensive just's an A+ product and you can sit and complain about the price all you want...the reality is, you get what you pay for! It's quality is real.

Also, I can buy a 2oz jar (very small) and keep it for 1 1/2 months and I coil or twist my hair every week. You just don't need to use that much of it.

Lastly, when in doubt, you should go to Miss Jessie's website and view some of the tutorial videos, you'll see that not much is used and they use it on 4b type hair, as well. Having natural hair means playing around with different things, sometimes over and over until you feel comfortable with it and the product does what you need it to do. Feel like you're using too much? Use a little less next time. Feeling like you're not using enough? Use a little more the third time. It's trial and error.

Enjoy your natural hair journey. It's a bumpy ride but it always feels free-ing! And freedom is a beautiful thing.

~Natural for a year and 3 weeks!

1.0 out of 5 stars Only good thing is the Smell 22 Jun 2010
By Ezinwanyi - Published on
I used this product on myself and my 2 children. This product make white flakes and I only used a LITTLE. I tried it dry and I tried it wet and I tried it slightly damp. I looks white until it dries, but it leaves horrible white flakes in the hair and it doesn't moisturize or define the curls.

Now I have to say that I LOVE the smell, but it made not a difference on our hair that would be worth the price. I have given it to a friend who the product seems to work on her hair, but she is mixed and has very wavy and thick hair. So maybe it is for mixed persons and not for straight up Kinky hair.

I recommend trying Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Creme or Oyin's Burnt Sugar Pomade or Whipped Butter. Those 2 lines have been great.

1.0 out of 5 stars HORRIFYING 22 Dec 2010
By Jemima Jean-Paul - Published on
I've heard lots of great things about Ms. Jessie's products, so I decided to try out "Ms. Jessie's Curly Pudding." The bottle pretty much advertises that the product will enhance your curls. No way! It stretches your curls by relaxing it some how. I put the product in my hair day one, then tried it again the second day. I finally decided I didn't like it and went back to my usual routine. I now have strands of long straight hair while the rest of my hair follows my natural curl pattern. I feel like I was mislead into using a texturizer. I don't know what they put in their product, but it is absolutely NOT for me. If you want your curls, please stay away from this product. It's been four days and I still have long strands of straightened hair. I don't know when it will revert. :-(
