Well, yes and no. Anyone who has listened to and appreciated Saving Abel's self titled debut will already have one eye on what to expect here. Rather surprisingly however, "Miss America" is a step backwards for the band.
I felt myself feeling somewhat disappointed, you know when you have alot of left over food in the fridge and you make what can only be described as a "bung it all in curry?" Well that's exactly what Saving Abel have done here, they've bunged all there creative influences into one basket without much thought. Rather like a bung it all in curry, the result is an album that at time presents moments you'll love, and others you won't.
Take the rather strange choice for the lead single "Stupid Girl, Only In Hollywood," it's a straight up rocker but there's nothing special about it, its an album track at best, not a single.
In fact flirting thought the top half of the album you'll find very similar numbers in "Contagious" and "Bloody Sunday" before the second half of the album starts to pick up.
"Mississippi Moonshine" has a good melody and is probably the albums catchiest song, before mid tempo ballad "Angel Without Wings" proves they can throw out a decent cigarette lighter moment.
Overall though, "Miss America" is not a strong as their self titled debut.
Anyone who is new to Saving Abel needs to be checking out that album first, before giving "Miss America" a listen. It's grown on me a little since its first spin and it'll be doing the rounds on my iPod in due course, but make no mistake about it "Miss America" feels rushed and incomplete.
Saving Abel may not avoid that second album slump after all.

Great album from track 1 through track 11 26 Mar 2011

Don't listen to the naysayers about this album. I am a huge fan of rock music and this album does just that.... rocks!!! Their first album was pretty good and this one is even better. The tracks Contagious, Mississippi Moonshine, Miss America and Bloody Sunday are classic rock songs. I purchased the album several weeks ago and can't seem to stop listening to it. It brings me back to good ol' fashioned rock music. It takes me back to the music I listened to in the late 1970s and 1980s. I hope these guys put out another album soon because I am certain to purchase that one, too.

I am soooooo glad to see that Saving Abel has put out a new album! It by far is the best, and you can tell they have really come along from being that new band with a new sound 6 years ago. I hope they have many more albums in the future! I think this one will be one to create a new following of Saving Abel!
