An excellent compilation of cover versions from this outstanding alternative band. Well worth the money. Very very happy with this purchase.
Format:Audio CD
This CD single was released shortly before the Pork Soda album. It could be seen as a precursor to the later Rhinoplasty mini-album. The recording features Tim Alexander on drums (It's the 'classic' Primus line-up).
Featured on this recording are five cover versions -
Intruder (Peter Gabriel)
Making Plans For Nigel (XTC)
Sinister Exaggerator (The Residents)
Tippi Toes (The Meters)
Have a Cigar (Pink Floyd)
This CD is something of a curiosity, but it's pretty good. The production is quite similar to Pork Soda, and the asking price for this CD is pretty low right now.
If you like Primus you could do worse than get yourself a copy of this.

I normally don't pay much attention to EP's or CD singles, but "Miscellaneous Debris" is hard not to like. Obviously it's short, and only 5 tracks, but two of them are excellent. In my opinion, "Making Plans For Nigel" is one of the best things Primus has ever done. It's just a rockin' XTC cover, and these are all covers by the way. The other is "Have A Cigar". Maybe it's because I dig Pink Floyd also, but's it great to hear them give it the ol' Primus touch. The other three tracks are decent as well. Album-wise you can't beat the first two, but give this a shot if you see it used.

get the albums first, but...

this one ... is worth getting too. Primus are somewhat limited in their covering style in that they seem to primarily choose songs that already kind of sound like Primus, then just meet them partway and completely make them primus songs. Well no one really sounds like Primus (although some of the residents material kind of would if they used live instruments on a regular basis), but there's always some Primus like element to the originals. Ler's scarily accurate interpetation of the creepy fake xylophone solo on peter gabriel's "intruder" is an example of this, as is the kazoo solo taking place of the closing whistling of the original. However, the problem is when they head towards something that is a bit beyond their reach, in this case XTC's "making plan for nigel". While they do have an interesting take on the groove, les' voice doesn't really have the melodicism to carry the vocal line, so the result is a bit of a mess. Compare this to their cover of another early XTC song "scissorman" which seemed tailormade for the band from the start. However, aside from that, on this ep, they manage to keep a balance of not making entirely predictable choices but also not going anywhere Primus was never meant to go.

Primus did a very good job on this album. Though it is avery short one, it is still great. I don't mean to offend anyone but I have not heard of any of the songs on there other then Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd. All the songs are good, but Have a Cigar is an amazing song. It is the song, turned into a great, bass enriched, jam song. Buy it if you are a Primus fan, and buy it if you aren't a Primus fan.
