Product Description

Approximately one in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage but for each woman the experience is unique. This sympathetic and helpful book explores the many different ways in which women physically experience miscarriage and emotionally react to it. Drawing on the experiences of over 350 women, it will help every woman who has miscarried make sense of her loss and find her own way of coping with the confusion that frequently follows.

Many aspects of miscarriage are covered including difficult issues that are often avoided:

* the nature of the loss: tissue, embryo, foetus or baby?
* guilt about an earlier abortion
* explaining miscarriage to other children
* the effect of miscarriage on a relationship
* returning to work after miscarriage
* coping with repeated miscarriages.

The text also provides a set of guidelines to good practice for professionals, based on what women say they find helpful. Professionals who want to evaluate their own practice or develop the service they offer will find this an invaluable reference.

Miscarriage 30 Sep 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I read this book about a month after the sad event of my first miscarriage. This book gave me so much information I needed but was unable to get from elsewhere. If you have the need of sharing the feelings but not knowing with whom, or how, this is the book I recommend. There are very personal, and detailed experiences written by the women, whom you would never meet, but can share the experiences, deep sorrows with. This is a very good book of facts, experiences of miscarriages.

Extremely helpful 23 Jan 2005

Format:Paperback
I found this book a lifeline in the weeks following my miscarriage. The experiences of other women were sad, but helped me to feel less alone and to begin to understand my own emotions. The book gives information on very practical things like going back to work, coping with friends who are pregnant and how miscarriage can impact your relationship with your partner. I would highly recommend it to any woman (or person close to a woman) who has had the devastating experience of miscarriage. I only wish they had given me the book at the hospital the day I was told our little one had died, as the information was so vital when trying to understand how such a thing could possibly happen and how to cope with my own response to my pregnancy loss.

Essential reading 13 May 2007
By HJM
Format:Paperback
I bought this book a year ago when I suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage. It offered me the support and advice I needed at an incredibly sad time. It showed me that I was not alone, explained things clearly when I was unsure about what was happening to me and helped me understand my feelings and emotions. This book allowed me to feel hopeful for the future. Unfortunately, I suffered a second miscarriage, a year later, and again I reached for this book. It somehow helped me to feel positive and gave me the belief that I could get through it again.

I am deeply sorry for anyone who has suffered a pregnancy loss, but I am certain that this book will prove invaluable in the coming days, weeks and months.
