We love the Winnie stories but for some reason these are written in a quite different manner.
My main gripe is that Winnie has started swearing - ok so "heck" and "blooming" are not the most offensive words ever, but when they feature in most of Winnie's utterances they quickly get tiresome, and often detract from the humour of the situations. The writing also rambles more than in the other books, which have a crisper style - and Winnie's stoic acceptance of her setbacks and her repeated attempts to overcome them (e.g. Winnie Flies Again) are much funnier without the exclamations that pervade this book.
On the positive side the story lines in this book are still inventive and entertaining, and the drawings are great.
Children will enjoy the stories, so if you don't find the word "bum" as irritating as I do then go ahead and get the book...
