Review

Praise for The Wolves in the Walls: 'This book is quite extraordinary. Extraordinary and scary. But also madly inventive and madly funny. It illustrates two things that it is quite crucial to remember for this age group: you are never, ever too old for picture books and that even when you can read quite fluently - which many at the top end of this age range will be able to do - a story shared is a story that doubles in pleasure' Guardian 'This spectacular book, with its stylish blend of photography, paint, collage and drawing does not look like most children's picture books. It bypasses the cosy, simplified cliches of child appeal, which makes it absolutely intriguing for youngsters. It is atmospheric, sinister, scary and funny ...This is a book for cool kids who will grow up to be fearless' Sunday Times 'One of the most stylish picture books for 5+ ... a strange, cathartic, visually original book about a scary prediction that comes true, and is also classy and cool' Sunday Times Books of the Year 'Gaiman's words and McKean's pictures are a match made in ... some dark damp inspirational place. With gems like this and "The Wolves in the Walls" the pair are extending the audience for picture books' Time Out

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice book - but not what I was after 22 Dec 2007
Format:Hardcover
I ordered this thinking it was the graphic novel and was quite annoyed when I realised it was "The Illustrated Film Script of the Motion Picture from the Jim Henson Company". Fine is that's what you are after, but it should state this clearer in the item description. It doesn't feature any of the gorgeous illustrations from the graphic novel which is what I was after, so I sent mine back!

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning - Badly Misleading 25 Mar 2008
Format:Hardcover
Amazon - shame on you! This item is listed twice, once under the correct title of "film screenplay", but you can't order it, and secondly here without any description whatsoever. Most disappointed that this is not the actual book.

if you don't want to know the story of Mirrormask before you see the film, don't buy this book.
if however you do want
a)to experience a tittilating insight into the creative proccesses that went into developing it
b)to see the story in the fractured dimension of itself that it was, is and never will be
c)to appreciate concept work that is far more than your average storyboard
d)to read and see a good tale irrelevant to the fact that it is also a film
e)all of the above,
then you might as well, it is a very pleasing weight.

if you have seen the film or never heard of it then the above is as relevant as you think it is.
This is just one of several books being brought out around the film Mirrormask, think of them as extras on the second DVD that, because neither creator has ever been afraid of working in different mediums have been brought out in book form, before the theatre release of the film. And a book is a far nicer thing to own than a disk that you won't get round to watching for ages and will probably get scratched anyway.
