Biography

Biographyby Chris Woodstra

Since her debut in 1988, Sarah McLachlan's atmospheric folk-pop has gained a devoted following not only in her native Canada, where she established star status with her first album, but also in the U.S. and U.K. The following two decades saw her growing both as a musician and songwriter, continually redefining herself and emerging as a major voice in the ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Breathtaking 6 May 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Generally I would tend to avoid live albums as in my experience, they are largely disappointing. This is not the case with "Mirrorball". I was already a Sarah McLachlan fan before purchasing this album. If you liked "Surfacing", "Fumbling Towards Ecstacy" and "Solace"- you will love this. This album is truly amazing start to finish and the strength of Sarah's vocals are breathtaking throughout. "Hold On, Good Enough, I Will Remember You, The Path of Thorns and Ice Cream" are particularly excellent.
If you thought Sarah's previous albums were excellent- you have to hear this and indeed if you have yet to purchase a Sarah McLachlan album- this is the one to buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The next best thing to a live concert. 7 April 2001
Format:Audio CD
I am often weary of live ablums as the live randitions of songs don't always do justice to the original version. However, Sarah gives us so much more live than what is shown on her original albums.
Being a Canadian and growing up with the sounds of Sarah, I have always been impressed by her versitility, honesty and creativeness. Now living in London, this album is a thankful addition to my music collection.
As an artist, I have found her going from strength to strength with every album, and this is no different. Mirrorball is a good album if you are unfamiliar with Sarah as it gives a good overview of her songs, albeit her more popular.
Unfortunately, I have never seen Sarah in concert, but would definitely after hearing this album. It would be oh so nice if she skipped over the pond and performed in London!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just As Good Live As In The Studio! 20 Feb 2004
By S. Smith VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Some artists can sound absolutely awful live, while some come into their own. Sarah comes into her own in this superb live CD containing 14 tracks from Solace, Fumbling Towards Ecstacy and Surfacing.
Some songs have taken on a more cohesive sound from the originals as most sounds are now played with a full band. Some, like Possession, have some superb finishes to them and Sarah really knows how to get the listener and the crowd going. was left in awe that people can perform live with such panache! Few people can pull it off.
Spacing out the band efforts are piano and vocal songs "So What You Have To Do" and "Angels", the later being one of the many highlights of the album - so very sweet and heartfelt.
A great introduction to her work and you can pick your way through the albums via the songs you like best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mclachlans Magic 16 Dec 2003
Format:Audio CD
My first introduction to Sarahs music was 'Angel' which was being played in a mall, as soon as i heard it i had to go and find it! I was stunned by the haunting echoes of her voice twinned with the timelessness played from the piano. Her music is enough to suspend time.
If you like a bit of rock, a little bit of a ballad and a good sing along, then Mirrorball is the answer. From start to finish you cannot but help from being drawn into the world that Mclachlan creates. With Mirrorball being a live album you can feel the buzz from the audience as they sing along, just as you will.
I fully recommend Sarah Mclachlans album, 'mirrorball'
I can listen to this album 20 times a day and not get sick of it, only enjoy it more.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best 'Live' albums in ages 18 Oct 2002
By Scitzo
Format:Audio CD
I discovered Sarah Maclachlans by accident when watching the film 'Message In A Bottle', the song 'I Love You' was on and I was enchanted by the whole song so purchased the Sountrack the next day, and from there I bought this CD and by the following week i had all her records.
Maclachlan has one of the most captivating, melodic voices I have heard, every time she sings you are drawn to her, its very difficult to just put this CD on and listen to a few randomized tracks, as her voice seduces you to the end, a true talent and a compelling album with some of the most genuinely heartbreaking lyrics i have ever read, like Jim Morrison, Sarah Maclachlan writes poetry rather than lyrics, she sings stories (Path Of Thorns, Fumbling towards ecstacy) and its an emotion trip, which will satisfy you musically and leave you wanting more.
ALL of the tracks on here are excellent, not some but all, and I'm no sycophant just someone who stumbled in to this artist who ended up being one of my favourite of all time.
This is a tapestry of music woven in lament and drowned in the beauty of her voice with powerful ballads that will rock and inspire you.
As i said i discovered it by accident, but it was more serendipity than accident, Out of dozens of reviews on Amazon I can honestly say this is my 2nd most highly recommended CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding 20 April 2003
By Alisia
Format:Audio CD
Like a lot of people, I discovered Sarah McLachlan through the tearjearking number 'Full of Grace', which was featured in Season two of the tv programme 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. After hearing this I bought her album 'Surfacing' which was so excellent that I bought 'Mirrorball'. As I am skeptical about buying live albums because they are so often crap, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Favourites are 'Building a Mystery' (a classic), 'I Will Remember You' and 'Angel'. I was outraged when Westlife came out with a cover of this fantastic single because to be quite honest, their version was absolutely crap and did not do the song justice even in the least. Sarah's voice will captivate you and I can guarentee that you will wear this CD out, you will play it so much!
