This is an ambitious project, no less than a global History of Art from Pre-History to Conceptual Art. At times it becomes so generalised it appears superficial, and Bell's personal views do interfer with his thesis in places, but this is still a timely book and an excellent introduction to the subject. I particularly liked the introduction through Pre-Historic Art and the references to Chinese painting, relating it to what was happening in Europe.

To cover such a huge span of human art history is quite an undertaking and this book is readable and easy to get into, I review it because I met the author today and picked up the book and delved into it, in half an hour I came away with a want to know more. I will buy this very soon.

this is the worst art history text book, Do Not buy unless forced too 19 Jan 2011
By bubblegreenpie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Rambling and nonsensical are the key words in describing this art history text, i suppose the author must have thought himself clever with his winding tales of Harley Davidson's motorcycles being compared to an ancient Chinese bronze horse. But in reality, here on earth with art students that need to know what media was used to create a piece of artwork and why this peculiar piece of art work is meaningful in the history of art, said art student is left alone in a vast waste land of anachronism with useless dialog drifting by us like tumble weeds caught in the wind.
I was forced to buy this book by my art history teacher , who in turn was forced to make us buy this book by her department head. I passed my finals by using "Art thought the age 7th ed. which by the way is a nearly 10 year old art history book. I can not fathom why this book was allowed the tile of textbook, it contain more opinion the actual facts and said facts are at best on shaky ground, please please do not waste your money!

Big Surprise! 7 Oct 2010
By Beatriz M. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I ordered this book for a class and thought it wasn't going to make it in time since I wasn't able to get expedited shipping. The book actually came much sooner than I thought; way before my class began! It was in its original wrapping and in perfect condition. No tracking number.

The Biblical World - An Illustrated Atlas 24 Aug 2010
By Stan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having done some Theology studies, I find this book - The Biblical World - An Illustrated Atlas, an invaluable adjunct. It has obviously been thoroughly researched, and extremely well written in a most readable and clearly understandable manner. Its value far exceeds the actual cost. In a word, I am greatly impressed and have no hesitation in recommending it to theology students and theology seminaries.
