This is very good music. I've heard a lot of black metal bands, and this one is my favourite. The songwriting is very good, it's orchestrated well and the songs are structured pretty well, too. The main problem I have with this album (although quite a small one), is that a lot of the riffs are almost copies of a lot of so many thrash/black metal riffs, and that gets a bit tiring. However, there are a LOT of really creative riffs on this album, aswell. This album has a very slight problem of being repetitive, but it's a lot more varied than the majority of all forms of metal. What some black metal fans might be put off by, though, is the production; Some may say it's quite over-produced. The drums in particular sound quite fake, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Fantastic album

I don't normally write reviews but this album is so great that I was compelled to promote it in any way possible. For fans of Chthonic this is no surprise as all their albums are solid from front to back. For anyone who is into symphonic black metal or metal period, I highly recommend this cd. It is full of aggresive guitars, beautiful arrangements, pounding drums and shrieking black metal style vocals. But the real treat for me was all the hena work on the songs. It is a traditional Taiwanese instrument with two strings and played with a bow. It really sets Chthonic apart from the Cradle of Filths and Dimmu Borgirs and the like. Chthonic even add some politically motivated lyrics on songs like "Unlimited Taiwan" and "Sing Ling Temple", calling for the admission of Taiwan into the U.N. and W.H.O. and referencing the 228 massacre, an anti government uprising in the 1940s. Buy this album! You will not regret it.

Masterpiece from the extreme music masters

Good music has no boundries. Praise for those talented musicians from Taiwan. The Mirror of Retibution is full of agression, power, melody, and different styles. This new 2009 album from Chthonic explores the new possibilities of modern black metal music. The sound of Erhu creates the unique feeling of despair and sorrow, and it works very well with all other instruments. Don't miss this CD if you are a exteme metal fan looking for not the " me too " band and music. In my opioion, all the Chthonic albums are worth listening to and collectible.

Absolutely Amazing!

This is a beautiful piece of work. It builds off their predecessors, but they add original elements to their work. The composition is not as subtle as Seediq Bale, but it is faster and more aggressive. This album appeals to Westerners no doubt who prefer aggressive and brutal music more than people near their homeland. The drum and guitar are very impressively skillful. The melody is good. The lyrics are well written and meaningful. I highly recommend it.
