If you're reading this and thinking of getting the DVD, you know a bit about Arcade Fire. You've heard their music, you know their instruments, and you're crushing on one of them.
Maybe not that last part, but the rest should be true. This DVD is a concert DVD, there's not really much of a Documentary in it. They showcase some of the most amazing things I've seen, like playing in an elevator (considering how many band members they are, pretty amazing), or in the middle of a crowd with a megaphone. They manage to bring out the best and worst feelings in me, and really shows what music is all about. I can't really think of many other bands that have such an amazing relationship with their fans as AF has.
Now, the concert clips aren't of the professional kind you see on the TV, they're marked by jittery motions, color changes and a handheld camera that shakes a lot. If AF were playing these concerts on a stage, this would probably not be the best way of taping them, but with how the concerts are played, this works very well. It all gives it a... relaxed feel.
The documentary part covers parts of the making of the Neon Bible album. Scenes from the different recording sessions with orchestras and choirs show you just what went into the making of the album, and just how much fun the band was having.
You should buy and watch this over and over. Afterwards, ask yourself which band is your favorite. If your answer isn't Arcade Fire, you haven't watched it enough times.
