Product Description

Product Description

Fellow painter Walter Erben spent countless hours conversing with his colleague Joan Miro (1893-1983) at his house in Mallorca in preparation for this book. Over the course of these talks, Miro gave Erben many interesting and invaluable insights into his art, as well as his own interpretations of his most significant works. Thus was born this Miro retrospective which explores, through texts and images, the life's work of one of the 20th century's most influential painters.

About the Author

Walter Erben (1908-1981) studied German at Berlin University as well as painting at the Academy of Art in Dusseldorf, where he studied under Oskar Moll and Paul Klee. Erben taught fine art in Rome and Hagen, authored many successful books on the subject, and lectured extensively during his lifetime. Hajo Duchting, a painter, writer, editor, and art historian, holds professorships in the history of modern art at the Universities of Leipzig and Munich. He has supplemented Erben's text with a chapter on Miro's later life as well as numerous interpretations of a selected number of works.

LAY BARE THE SOUL 27 April 2009
Format:Paperback
The heart of this readable biographical art work revolves around a revealing interview in the mid-nineteen fifties with this illustrious artist,at his Mallorca home.Interveaved with numerous examples of Miro's work with a helpful commentary alongside. The second half of the book provides an in-depth critique of Miro and concludes with a short, but learned essay by Hugo Duchting on the artist's later works.Without doubt this book 'lays bare the soul 'of Catalan's most famous son.Excellent value and in keeping with Taschen's high artistic standards in this field.

Miro 13 Jan 2012
By Julia
Format:Hardcover
This is a lovely book but for some reason which is lost on me it does not have an index. In order to find out whether a specific painting is included I have to trawl through the whole book, which is frustrating and time consuming.
