Book Description

29 April 2003
The Miracle Tree offers a revolutionary new approach to the Tree of Life from a leading author who has practiced Western Qabalah for more than 30 years. The word "Qabalah" originally meant an oral tradition, and the voice of this book is that of a teacher talking with a group of students (the readers), without elitism, obscurity, or willful secrecy. Some hitherto "secret" techniques are described, including Withdrawal from Time, The Qabalah of the Three Suns, Walking Participation, and entering the Inner Temple traditions. These techniques produce powerful and rapid results when the student practices them regularly: They work directly within us, founded upon the truth that we are already the Miracle Tree. Another unique and groundbreaking feature of this book is that the author traces the sources of Tree of Life meditations and visions in medieval Europe.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Tree 26 Aug 2003
By A Customer
This is a wonderful book, packed with many new ways of looking at an old subject. This is not a rehash of information you will read elsewhere, and yet it has a very sound footing in the Western Tradition. I loved it, as it stimulated me into some wonderful new areas of exploration and understanding. I didn't agree 100% with the authors take, but thats ok, it's nice to be stretched out of a comfort zone now and again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Demystifying 11 May 2003
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is the best book on Qabalah I have read. It is clearly written and entirely practical in approach.
There are too many books that have a smattering of useful knowledge and rehash previous writers. Bob Stewart writes with poetic precision.
I would personally recommend this book and Dion Fortune's Mystical Qabalah as enough to take you to the heart of Western esoteric practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Key to the Qabala 24 May 2009
By Caitlín Matthews - Published on
I have studied qabala (QBL hereafter) from end to end since 1971 - from the Hebrew sources of the Zohar and its commentaries to the gentile magical and Neo-Plaatonic end of things, from academic to popular. This is simply the best introduction to the power of the QBL ever written, from the hands of a master who has walked these paths and met the beings who are to be discovered there. Most QBL books have yards of diagrams and lengthy lists in Hebrew but are very short on practical applications: this book cuts to the chase and enables us to walk those paths personally and find out for ourselves. No phony gurus, no vast outlay of money, no mystification, just the straight-forward introduction to the QBL that you've been looking for. Having said that, it is still your own engagement with the teachings alone will bring you to wisdom. QBL is a path you have to walk yourself: when you set foot on the tree, you will be joined by those companions who have studied before you, so you will not be alone. This is a powerful book that unlocks the tree of life and enables you to eat of its fruit.

Caitlín Matthews, co-author of Walkers Between the Worlds and Sophia, Goddess of Wisdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars provocative, evocative and effective 15 Oct 2005
By DE - Published on
Once again, R. J. Stewart succeeds in cutting through the excessive intellectualization and seemingly endless charts of correspondences that characterize much Qabalah and occult writing generally. Here he has produced a book with clear practical exercises which a beginner can use immediately and which a more experienced practitioner can readily adapt -- and both will achieve definite results. These techniques work, as I have proved to myself in solitary and group work. "Almost all spiritual or transformative traditions," Stewart notes, "are oral and experiential rather than merely written; they often depend upon being there, rather than reading about being there." Hence the book's emphasis on immediately grounding the ideas in practices or "forms," as Stewart terms them, a helpful designation that suggests, as Stewart intends, the martial arts and their basic dozen or so elements on which one can build a sophisticated and powerful art. "Qabalah works by holisms rather than by summary or analysis of its component parts, and Qabalistic literature has often suffered because of its neo-scientific emphasis upon details and parts that neglects the whole." In 250 pages Stewart keeps that whole before our attention. His three decades of experience with Qabalah and with writing and teaching generally shine through in this text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Embodying the Qabalah 4 Jun 2006
By S.J. - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Everything I have read of Stewart's is wonderful and this book is no exception. A forward-thinking theorist and philosopher of magic, Stewart delves into the heart of Qabalah (the word means "the receiving" in Hebrew) and shows the archetypal nature of this tradition. Even though I am Jewish (and Irish-American) and know some Hebrew, I appreciate that this system does not employ the Hebrew names for the emanations of the Tree. Using the English makes the work so much more approachable, especially for those of us a bit burnt out on the Christian Qabalah systems of the Victorian period, i.e., Golden Dawn. Too many of these magical systems with Victorian roots rely on endless charts and correspondences in an attempt to approach Qabalah intellectually. Stewart is one of the few teachers who understands the Qabalah must be experienced on all levels of being, including the physical. Indeed, "We are the Tree of Life"--we don't have to memorize vast quantities of information to activate what already exists in us. In my opinion, this approach is especially useful for those, like myself, who are working transtraditionally and/or who come from a mixed ethnic background.

5.0 out of 5 stars An understandable and informative explanation of the Qabalah 20 April 2013
By dwalters5 - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have attempted to read about the Qabalah several times but I would always become frustrated with the archaic language used by the writers. This book is easy to read. The historical information is well organized and well presented. His introductions and explanations of the forms is very useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent practical primer on the Quabala 4 Jun 2013
By Taylor Ellwood - Published on
This is a solid book on quabala that provides useful exercises to help you explore quabala from a Western esoteric tradition. I like how the author marries quabala to planetary magic and shows how the reader can use the system to do both meaningful internal work as well as connect to cosmic and underworld energies. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the topic, but don't just read the book. Do the exercises and you will get a lot from the content as it applies to your magical work and life.
