5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on meditation I've seen 22 Dec 2003
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This is a fantastic introduction to meditation. It is not written in a dry, technical way, but rather with gentle anecdotes and suggestions that are easy to read, understand and enjoy. The small size of the book perhaps reflects the reality of simplicity being a component of the peace the book discusses and is in itself encouraging!! If you've ever wanted to know what meditation is, or how to get started, this must be one of the best places.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Buddhist Monk 9 Dec 2003
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Thich Nhat Hanh has to be one of the best authors on Buddhism I have ever read. His style of writing flows so well that his books are easy to read and it's clear to see that in this book he was really writing from the heart. After reading The Miracle of Mindfulness it leaves me with such a good understanding of the mind of such a great monk and a feeling of peace. I would recommend this book to anyone whether they have read other books on Buddhism or are just curious to know the basics of Buddhist thought and teachings. Thich Nhat Hanh shows us throughout his book how we spend too much time worrying about the past and the future without ever stopping to consider the present and how we fail to see the wider picture of our existence within the rest of the world. This is a refreshing and calming read in what is usually a busy and fast-paced existence. This is a book that can make you slow down and re-prioritise what is truly important in life making your life less stressful and selfish. A truly inspiring read.

Format:Hardcover
I have read books for many times and find it refreshing every time I read. This book has been translated into my country language (Thai) and has been published for 12 times !!!

This book tell how to meditate and apply mindfulness(Sati) in daily life. I suggest "Mindfulness in Plain English" if you are interested in mindfulness meditation in more detail.

I absolutely recommend reading this book. This book is for the unfortunate majority of people in the world, myself included, which wastes too much time and energy thinking/worrying about past events or about the future. This book encourages people to enjoy life by living in the present.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Approach 21 Jan 2008
By Arckin
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent read, the book is simple to follow and gives good techniques, which can be applied on a daily basis. While reading this book I felt connected page after page, as it envelops the reader of mindful thoughts and as we recognise each aspects of our thoughts. We will be able to overcome the negative perspectives, apply the positive thoughts resulting in overall empowerment, peaceful and blissful life.

This is a lovely book with many practical tips on meditating.

My particular favourite is the reference to 'washing the dishes to wash the dishes' - the idea of living in the present and enjoying tasks that we all want to put off. By focusing on the job in hand and not ruminating or thinking about what we are going to do next, Hanh rewards the reader with very simple but profound advice. - my dishes have never been cleaner and my mind is certainly less cluttered as a result!

4.0 out of 5 stars Peerless wisdom 10 April 2009
Format:Paperback
This book (among others by Thich Nhat Hahn) is a really good in-road to learning some important guiding principles for life, in a world often disinclined to take or teach such advice. I would also recommend 'Peace is Every Step,' which is less practical, more theoretical and based in stories from the life of the author. Writings such as this allow the individual to explore their interior landscape without biase or indoctrination. A valuable tool for any thinker, regardless of religion or ideology.
