Unfortunately, while Mio may be able to write satnav firmware they fail miserably at Windows software.

In order to install the Lifetime Map updates you have to use their Windows-only application MioMore.

Unfortunately, the version of this included with the unit (7.50) either instantly crashes on startup, or sometimes waits until I connect the satnav to my computer and then dies.

I've tried searching the Mio website for updates to this application to no avail, and they don't even publish an email address - it appears the only way to get in touch is via Facebook and Twitter!

On top of that, you only get 30 days to redeem the "Lifetime Maps", and you can only do that by using this application! Completely ridiculous.

So while I'd give the satnav itself four stars, I can only give the "LM" edition the lowest possible rating because the "Lifetime Maps" part is completely unusable so far.

If I haven't had a response from Mio within the next week I'll have to return it as "Not fit for purpose"

I'll comment back here either way.

This is my third Mio device and is the worst ever. Despite the box saying it is compatible with Windows 7 it is NOT repeat NOT compatible with windows 7 64 bit operating system and I cannot get any help or even a reply from the SUPPOSED Mio support system. My only current solution is to try a friends computer running widows XP so I can try and get "lifetime map updates" that were part of the package. DO NOT BUY A MIO SAT NAV. You will search high and low for support and not get it your supplier will wash their hands of you as they get no help from Mio and if you cannot use the "pay for" Mio help line they are not interested and will never admit their devices are incompatible with any windows system after "XP" . What crap they are !!!!!

bought this model on their recommendation. the unit has problems updating, is well out of date when it is updated as roads from early 2014 are still not shown. 4 updates a year well behind. Definitely one to watch until they deem it right to correct the problems and faults.
While updating the unit also locks up, freezers the PC screen so one cannot establish what is going on. after some 2 1/2 hours I disconnected the link and blow me down the PC asked to be reconnected, and that is just for a map update. Their web site does not recognize this unit when one attempts to register it which means your back up, warranty, whatever is, is not registered with Mio so one can I guess KISS GOODBYE to one's hard earned cash.
Contact Mio and you get a message, 'We are looking into your complaint and will contact you shortly'. I do think a simple MAP is a better form of travel information, if the details are not there then you do not get there rather than believe you will, as the Mio wants to take me across swamp fields, streams and bog land and leave me in the middle of no-where, stuck, fed up, annoyed and in pitch darkness.

I haven't used it much yet, but it seems to do what it's supposed to. I struggled a bit with a route planner on a multi-stop trip but it's just a question of playing with it a bit.
