Great monocular and compass 21 Oct 2011

There are several nice monoculars out there. The Minox combines excellent optics along with a horizontal and vertical reticle for estimating the size of what you are viewing, and a numerical (1 - 360) degree bearing fully functional compass.

This Minox is a wonderful tool for preventing you from becoming lost in the woods, or navigating your way out, or from where you happen to be to something interesting that you just spotted through the lens, and now you absolutely have to find out exactly what it is by hiking there.

Waterproof, fogproof, compass, recticle, rubber armored with excellent optics. How can you go wrong? BUY ONE NOW!!!

OH, don't forget to bring a good map!

Minox MD 8x42 CWP 24 Jan 2012
By Novar - Published on Amazon.com
I just purchased a Minox MD 8x42 CWP monocular with compass to use while sailing in Florida. I arrived intact with no signs of damage. The workmanship looked good. Optically it was fine. I compared it to my other two nautical compasses that I know are accurate. The Minox compass was off by almost 25 degrees making it pretty much worthless for it's intended use. There is no access for any kind of adjustment that I could see. It went back.

Cannot complain about the optics on this monocular. Bright and clear. I have used it in the back yard bird watching and feel the 8x is about correct to avoid image shake. I have also used it in the kayak a fair amount. It appears water proof and up to the abuse of use in a kayak. The compass does on occasion stick but that is NBD, a quick shake and it is dead on. My two concerns are:1) the caps are too loose fitting. They pop off while in a bag or PFD and while they don't separate from the unit they offer no protection and can hang up on other items. 2) No eyelet for attachment to a neck lashing or leash. The hand strap works well to hold it while in use but I'd hate to drop it in the water. One can loop a cord through the hand strap but this seems a cheap fix for so nice a piece of equipment. Can't beat the value.
