Product Description

Synopsis

As the workload in general practice increases, many practices are expanding the role of the practice nurse, to include the management of minor illnesses: the "extras" or "emergencies" who request same-day appointments. This volume aims to demonstrate that a nurse-run "emergency clinic" is safe, liked by patients, and effective at reducing doctors' stress and locum costs. It offers a concise guide to each condition, with tables, charts and drug information. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

this book gives very clear protocols for nurses undertaking the increasingly common role of minor illness clinics within General Practice. The protocols and recommended medical treatment may not be the same as may be recommended by some doctors but it gives a good basis from which to work, to evolve protocols for such clinics. Differential diagnoses are explored which may alert the nurse to a potentially less minor condition. This book is a must for nurses in this role.
