5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Look 5 Jan 2005
By An Honest Critic - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Deborah Smith takes me on a rollercoaster ride with this witty tale about a scandal that takes place behind the pulpit. I read this book in one day. It's funny, heart-warming and passionate. For this to have been her first novel, she did a great job. She's well on her way. Congratulations Deborah - I just picked up the sequel "Robbed Without A Gun" and I'm looking forward to reading it. Keep up the good work, I predict you have started something new "Holy Hip Hop Fiction" You Go GIRL!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMEN! 10 Jan 2005
By Dorcas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
It is about time someone told the truth about what is happening in the pulpit. It is refreshing to have an author expose how so called men of GOD choose not to ZIPLOCK the pants, while simultaneously send a message of deliverance. In this creative and whitty novel the author lures you into the main character's world - a world so authentic I am sure those of us in the "church world" either experienced what "Kiyah" went through or know someone who has. Thank GOD for a timely message such as this. A message that tells ministers you about to get exposed!

2.0 out of 5 stars Prayerfully offering constructive criticism 14 Sep 2004
By C. Ellington - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I truly and sincerely pray that Rev. Smith and readers will take these words in the loving spirit with which they are delivered. The idea has such great potential, and is a story that, sadly for the modern church, needs to be told. But having said that, I must say that as an avid and voracious reader of many genres, particularly African American fiction, I am finding this book very difficult to finish. Poor grammar in the narrative, typos and/or misspellings, and an overwhelming amount of punctuation errors both in the narrative and dialogue are so terribly distracting that they are taking away from the intended message. ... There is certainly an audience for Rev. Smith's work, and I pray that her next novel displays the potential I see.
