I have a standard 2D Maglite with an incandescant bulb and also a 2D LED Maglite. I purchased the TerraLux upgrade to replace the standard bulb. The result is far superior to the old incansescant bulb, but when compared alongside the LED Maglite, it is not quite as bright.
As this upgrade is quite expensive, I have only given it three stars, since you can buy a new 2D LED Maglite for less than £25, so it is not amazing value for money, but does a decent job.

I knew LED's were coming but couldn't resist a bargain, then with the advent of LED's a few years ago becoming more mainstream my Maglite has become redundant except perhaps as a burglar clobberer (I always keep a dazzling petzl Myo XP / RXP these days) However didn't wan't to throw my Mag out just because it was deemed old technology!
Terralux have been around a good while now & have good reports of stated Lumens so I took the plunge & am heartily satisfied, it now puts out as much as my Myo xp ..so good enough for the majority of torch requirements.
Am now showing it off to my similarly "stuck" in the past friends as an affordable alternative.
Maglite got a bit sloppy & slow as a result their torches are still good but not the best, this upgrade levels out the field somewhat.
Recommended purchase AS an upgrade to an existing unit, however there are far better out there than maglite these days who do not produce the once highly regarded product anymore & are now "just another brand"
