The mini lathe,
By
This review is from: The Mini-lathe (Workshop Practice) (Paperback)
Tho aimed primarily at one particular model of a "Model Lathe" it gives some useful tips and a revision of metal turning that I'd learnt years ago at school. Wriiten in a helpful style and useful as a DIY book that makes one want to "have a go".

A Practical Guide,
By
This review is from: The Mini-lathe (Workshop Practice) (Paperback)
A practical guide giving good, basic, but not exhaustive, information including valuable in formation regarding the lathes now sourced from the Far East.
It should be taken as part of reading of the subject, not as a sole definitive guide and I still would not abandon my copy of the 'Amateurs Lathe' by Sparey - first published sixty years ago and the nearest thing to the ideal on the subject.

A really useful primer,
By
This review is from: The Mini-lathe (Workshop Practice) (Paperback)
I hadn't any workshop experience with turning and wanted to be able to make things for my Austin Seven, so I bought a Mini-lathe. Then I found I had no-one to turn to for advice, so I bought this book. So far I can't fault it - it makes you aware that lathes are potentially dangerous, tells you how to clean the glop off the lathe when you unpack it, explains the different tool shapes and their use, and gives a short course in making things. The last is not necessarily immediately useful, but careful study of it will help you find possible ways to adapt the advice to the sort of work you want to do. A very, very useful little book indeed!
