Product Description

The 'classic' Mini is a sixties icon that remained in production for 40 years. Unveiled to the press in August 1959, the Mini ignored many long-established design principles and bristled with innovative features. The car instantly won favour with tuners and modifiers, and today the Mini remains one of the most popular project cars with performance tuners. A thriving support structure of clubs, specialist magazines and parts suppliers ensures that the Mini will remain popular with tuning enthusiasts for many years to come.

An excellent read although with nothing that a well informed Mini owner would not know already. The author is already well known to readers of MiniWorld magazine as he is their technical editor so obviously knows his stuff. He also has a very nice modified Mini himself, as seen on the front cover.
There are also plenty of other nice colour pics of various Mini`s (including mine !) and none of the BMW "Mini", which is good to see !

Gave to a Mini-Enthusiast....He Loved It 10 Jan. 2007
By K. Isaacson - Published on

Gave this book for Christmas to someone who is restoring a 1963 mini. He has restored several other cars and is well adept with engines/restoration. This is his first mini restoration.

The recipient loved the book. He said it covered the engine comprehensively and with good diagrams. I was able to look at it myself, and it indeed has step-by-step in depth pictures and explanations about a variety of engine components and body projects one might undertake. The main strength is the clarity and depth of instruction on addressed topics.

The range of information seems quite useful if one is completing a restoration of any magnitude-- from engine to body repairs.

This said, it does not really address engine building from the ground up-- it presupposes an intact engine. I found there are several other books written specifically about these engines (if you are starting ground-up), and but this addresses repairs and maximizing performance.

The photos are quite nice, and the book large and glossy. It is a reference book that should be on the shelf of any mini owner.
My Favorite "Performance" Book for Classic Mini 14 May 2013
By Brian Davis - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This is NOT a "shop manual". It IS a terrific collection of advice on Classic Mini performance options. Use the "Look Inside" option on Amazon to read the back cover. It gives an honest description of what this book covers. The photos are outstanding. This is an older book, but probably 90-95%% of the products listed are still available, and certainly that's true if you're trying to use period correct performance enhancements. The author, Tim Mundy, still writes for one of the major UK Mini enthusiast magazines (Mini World) and is definitely an expert who's opinion you can trust.
