Review

'Vivid and lively ... this is fascinating stuff' --Telegraph

Review

'A well-researched journalistic effort that is as good at describing the social context of the Mini as it is of the car itself'

ALMOST PERFECT 21 July 2009
By FENRIS5
Let me make one thing crystal clear - this is a very good book. In fact this is an excellent book. This is not a story of the mechanical evolution of the model. This is an incredibly researched and masterfully written sociological study of the second half of the XX century and its influences on the creation and development of the Mini. The text is always simple, knowledgeable and witty and the amount of information contained in this book is staggering.

But then you might ask why not give it five stars? There are two small problems with it. The book is very small (but thick). In fact it is almost pocket book sized, turning it into the perfect summer holiday book, but denying the possibility of using photos of a useful size. On top of this the book has very few pictures, almost all in black and white and of minute proportions, and let's face it, a book about cars without quality photos is like a garden without flowers

Part of the Mini story 30 April 2010
An enjoyable read but not a great book which tells the story well with quite a number of details which were new to me. Of course much of the material has been recounted elsewhere but this book contains a good overall account of the rise and fall of this seminal design. Perhaps there should heave been a little more on its shortcomings but it is a small book.

Nostalgia in Spades 24 April 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
We bought our first Mini secondhand about 1964 - Clipper Blue, 850cc and the very basic doors and windows and the starter on the floor. Never let us down and was sold on to some more happy folk.

This book is most enjoyable and brings back very good memories, and also tells us the complete story up to date
Thoroughly enjoyed and strongly recommended
