Product Description

Product Description

A worthy addition to the "Haynes Great Cars" series, this book chronicles the history of the legendary Mini, from humble beginnings as the brainchild of Alec Issigonis, through 41 years of production, to its rightful status as a British motoring icon. The author also devotes space to the Mini's success in motor sport, where it proved to be a formidable performer. Detailed, authoritative and highly illustrated throughout, this is the essential guide to the Mini's evolution from ubiquitous saloon, through practical, utility and upmarket variants, to the feisty Coopers.

This book really is a must for anyone with a love for Mini's. As well as being beautifully illustrated, unlike a lot of simular books, this is one that you will actually want to read. It gives a definative history of the Mini, from its initial development right throught to the final one rolling off the production line. All of the different models are covered in detail, and unlike a lot of books, the Wolsey Hornet and Riley Elf have not been ignored. Any fan of the Mini will love this book, and I cant imagine anyone being disappointed by it.

This book goes over the history of the Mini very well, and the use of images are brilliant! I have always liked the Mini and I think it is a great little car and a British icon, not to mention car of last centuary! One thing puzzles me though, in the book near the end, there is a bit about the Mini not selling so well before the production of the car was ceased, but I remember reading in magazines and papers that the Mini was selling well, especially to young people, and there was confusion on why Rover was stopping production on the Mini when they were starting to climb in sales, so I'm a little confused on that. But great car, and great book to read!

I have often read in magazines that this book was a so-called "coffee-table" book because it features stupendous large colour photographs. In fact this book is far much more than this: there are also many period photos and a REALLY informative text. Thus, this is a really nice book both nice to look at and that will bring you many things you didn't know.
If I had to buy only two or three books about the Classic Mini, it had to be part of the lot!
