This box set contains dramatisations of five of Minette Walters' novels and features The Ice House, The Scold's Bridle, The Echo; The Dark Room and The Sculptress and stars some very well known actors such as Pauline Quirk, Clive Owen, Daniel Craig, Miranda Richardson and Penny Downie to name just a few. I have read all and enjoyed most of Ms. Walters books with the possible exception of The Dark Room and I found the television adaptation did nothing to change my opinion of this story; in fact the television version of The Dark Room was even more disappointing than the novel. I also felt a similar theme ran through all five dramatisations, something that did not strike me so forcibly when I read the books; perhaps this was because, apart from The Ice House and The Scold's Bridle, I read the novels as they were published and therefore there was a decent interval between reading each story.
My favourite Minette Walters novel is The Sculptress and the very talented Pauline Quirk is mesmerising in the title role; consequently, this is the only one of the five DVDs I kept as part of my collection; the others I happily passed on to friends.
This DVD is certainly value for money and for this reason and The Sculptress, I am awarding it three stars although a couple of the stories were highly forgettable.
