I have mixed feelings about this book, which includes four short stories based on Minecraft characters: The Wolf and the Zombie, Minecraft Zombie Planet, The Minecart Express and Minecraft Invasion Part I. My nine year old son, like many of his friends, is crazy about Minecraft and asked for this book. On the plus side, he devoured it within a day and I think it might be a useful tool to engage a reluctant reader - the subject matter, short length, simple words and layout would make it useful for children with reading problems, as books they are given are often aimed at much younger children. On the minus side, the stories are really not very good. They are poorly written, consisting of short paragraphs and almost no dialogue. Really, this is a book of fanfiction. However, not all books have to be great literature and if your child enjoys the world of Minecraft they might enjoy this, but as a work of fiction it is not a great (or even good) read. To be fair, though, my son did enjoy it and so it certainly amused it's target audience of young Minecraft fans - so, in that sense, it works well.

I was very disappointed by this book. It's billed as a book to engage reluctant readers with books, and that is a very worthy goal - however, if this is going to be a teaching aid, it should NOT be littered with poor grammar and NOT have any four-letter words in it.

I'd recommend any potential purchaser to exercise the 'Look Inside' option and have a quick skim of the first few pages. It won't take long to decide whether you want your child to be exposed to this, even if you are desperate to find some way of prising them away from the computer screen !

I was pretty disappointed with this as a gift for my 8yr old son as the writing is quite big, I'd say more suited to 5/6 yr old. Also maybe the book is slightly overpriced.
However my son enjoyed it so can't complain too much... This is just my personal view ,someone else may decide my opinion is wrong like my son who does think highly of anything minecraft.
