Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Reader Rabbit Thinking is another excellent package from The Learning Company, designed specifically for children 4-6 years old to combine learning with play, so making the experience fun.

We all think, but have you ever wondered how we do it, what processes are involved, how our thinking skills have been developed? In the past, too little emphasis has been placed on these processes, but today far more importance is attached to the methods of thinking. This package sets out to help children to develop and apply thinking skills as they help Reader Rabbit and his friends to plan a surprise birthday party for Sam the Lion. The ADAPT Learning Technology is used here, a system that continually adjusts the program to match the ability of each player:

  • A--assesses abilities
  • D--develops skills
  • A--adjusts levels
  • P--provides help
  • T--tracks progress

There are many activities, all involving preparing for the party: wrapping presents, arranging goody bags, making cookies and so on, all designed to help children to increase their skills in matching and ordering, organising information, patterning and sequencing, cause and effect, planning ahead, logic and reasoning, decision making, similarities and differences, experimenting with ideas, categorising attributes, memory, predicting outcomes, problem solving, critical thinking. The whole package supports the National Curriculum at Key Stage One.

Also included is an excellent 30-page comprehensive booklet explaining all aspects of the package in great detail. Particularly helpful is a section entitled "trouble shooting" which contains guidance for self-help on simple problems that may be encountered.

All in all this is a first-class package, easy to set up and install, that uses fascinating characters, excellent graphics and sound, and uses skill levels and games that are fitted and adapted to meet children's individual needs. --Susan Naylor

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for primary children of all ages., 21 Jun 2001
This review is from: Reader Rabbit Thinking (CD-ROM)
A fun, educational CD-Rom that grows with your child. Reader Rabbit develops the thinking skills of logic, reasoning and problem solving; neglected areas so necessary for life. Combine a feast for the mind in graphics, audio and interest with extremely good value.

Help Reader Rabbit plan a surprise party for Sam the Lion. Complete the 8 activities to collect the items needed for the party. Go to Professor Owl's Tree House and finish dance steps, and plan how to get the tail to the donkey. Go to Papa Bear's Store to wrap presents and sort toys. At Pierre's Studio children complete the wrapping paper following the pattern clues provided and make banners that differ in shape, colour and/or pattern. In Bab's Kitchen children use matching and ordering skills to copy the cookie, and choose sweets for the party bags based on their attributes.

Great fun for primary children of all ages.
