Book Description

14 Jan 2014
"Richards is a tremendous new talent." —Stephen Coonts, 17-time New York Times bestselling author of Pirate Alley When Nick Hall wakes up in a dumpster—bloodied, without a memory, and hearing voices in his head—he knows things are bad. But they're about to get far worse. Because he’s being hunted by a team of relentless assassins. Soon Hall discovers that advanced electronics have been implanted in his brain, and he now has two astonishing abilities. He can surf the web using thoughts alone. And he can read minds. But who inserted the implants? And why? And why is someone so desperate to kill him? As Hall races to find answers, he comes to learn that far more is at stake than just his life. Because his actions can either catapult civilization to new heights—or bring about its total collapse. Extrapolated from actual research on thought-controlled web surfing, Mind's Eye is a smart, roller-coaster ride of a thriller. One that raises a number of intriguing, and sometimes chilling, possibilities about a future that is just around the corner. "Recalls the best of Michael Crichton. Intense action, mind-blowing concepts, & breathtaking twists. Enjoy the ride." —Boyd Morrison, bestselling author of The Vault, on WIRED.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining thoughtful story 18 April 2014

I really enjoyed this book twas well thought out and ticked along nicely. Maybe could do with a bit more descriptive prose to bring characters, places into the minds eye of the reader. Also lacking in places is the unpredictably that unleashing violent events can bring. I would say a little bit formulaic and could alienate some readers for being a little bit too clever. Nevertheless, l enjoyed the journey Douglas created, well done.

This book opens with a series of clever scenes and has a clever 'near future' premise of being able to access the web by thought alone. However, after the active first third of the book, the middle sections and especially the end are totally bogged down in endless pages of turgid talk and explanantion, instead of showing us the action at the end, the author has his characters tell us what they did and why. How this book made it to the NY Times bestseller lists is beyond me, I had to speed read the finale and there was ludicrous dialogue and unbelieveable characters and situations everywhere.

In dire need of an editor, this was simplistic, overwritten and boring!

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking thriller 5 April 2014
By Dr. Babus Ahmed VINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition
A fast paced tech thriller which hits the ground running from page one and asks a very interesting question about mind reading and mind control of the internet. I loved the premise of this book and boy did it deliver! I didn't want the book to end but couldn't stop reading it.

The characters were well written, however I did find some of the dialogue stilted to include information to keep readers on track rather than authentic believable dialogue. This did not distract from this fast paced story of our protagonist on the run.

Definitely one to keep you hooked until the end and a must read for cyber geeks!

I've read wired & also Amped, both by Douglas E Richards. Loved them both and couldn't wait for his next, which of course was MINDS EYE!
Excellent read as always with his books, bought it on kindle 2 days ago & couldn't put it down. Wouldn't mind having ESP for a day but I can see if this was for real in this day it would ruin the world. So much twists and turns how could you put it down? Highly recommend this along with Wired and also Amped! Loved the authors notes bit at the back aswell, good work Doug!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent SciFi Thriller 11 Feb 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A real page turner. Right up-to-date with today's technology. A man wakes up in a rubbish skip with no memory - but he's aware of a sort of background noise in his head, the thoughts of other people nearby. He can't remember who he is but because of his ESP he knows that people want to kill him. He escapes then accidentally finds out he can surf the internet with his mind.
