Book Description

21 Feb 1997
This new spiritual approach to physical health introduces us to a spiritual tradition that affirms the body and enables us to reconceive our bodies in a more positive light. Using Kabbalistic teachings and other Jewish traditions, it shows us how to be more responsible for our own spiritual and physical health. Each chapter explores the meaning of traditional Jewish prayers, providing a framework for new thinking about body, mind, and soul. Simple exercises and movements help our bodies "understand" prayer, and show how the body's energy centers correspond to the Kabbalistic concept of the ten divine "rays of light," the Sefirot. And meditations and visualizations allow us to further enhance our spiritual awareness. Using the structure of the Prayer Wheel, readers can move step by step toward wholeness of body, mind and spirit: • Modeh Ani Awakening our body and our soul • Mah Tovu Creating a temple for our soul • Asher Yatzar Focusing on the gift of our body • Bircat HaTorah Balancing our mind through the gift of Torah • Elohai Neshamah Connecting with the soul using the Sefirot • Elu D'varim Walking on a God-centered path Clearly illustrated with photos and diagrams to guide readers, this active, creative approach allows us to tap the power of the Jewish tradition-to awaken the body, balance the mind, and connect with the soul.

From the Author

Join us in a new kind of body-mind-soul integration!
The pathbreaking aspect of this book is that it puts a spotlight on the body and demonstrates how soul, mind and body can be intertwined in Judaism. Prayer, visualization, and movement become a unified practice, through which a person can grow in new ways. You'll also learn new things about the traditional prayers and Jewish mysticsm! Judy and I, coming from very different backgrounds and perspectives, found that this work can also bring people together across sectarian boundaries. We'd be delighted to have your comments.

5.0 out of 5 stars helping me play with movement and prayer 25 Nov 2000
By D. Mayaan - Published on Amazon.com
This book is helping me play with movement and prayer. There are also great visualizations and discussions of healing. I also value the phrase-by-phrase translations / explanations of the traditional prayers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners 3 Dec 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
I read this book from cover to cover, then began focusing on some of the different meditations, prayers and movements. This is a very easy way to start learning about Jewish meditation. This book doesn't bog you down, nor does it put too much on your plate at once. Also, a cassette tape is available from the publisher, that leads the prayers, movements and meditations. I plan to purchase that as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very potent! 17 May 2012

This is an amazing book. I am not Jewish--though my paternal grandfather was a secular jew from Hungary--and yet I find the meditations and movements in this book very centering and healing. I find the spiritual energy here to be much more powerful than in the much more widely distributed and Madonna-associated Kabbalah Centre publications by the Berg brothers. If you do even 10 minutes a day of these movements and prayers for a week, I believe you'll start to feel something quite extraordinary: a reconnection with your own soul and, through it, to the divine. There should be dozens of reviews here, not three. Blessings!
