From Amazon.co.uk

Creepy, tense and enigmatic, Renny Harlin's Mindhunters is a grizzly cross between Agatha Christie's whodunnit classic And Then There Were None and Jonathan Demme's horrifying The Silence of the Lambs. An interesting ensemble cast including Christian Slater (Windtalkers), Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting), L.L. Cool J (Harlin's Deep Blue Sea)and Kathryn Morris (television's Cold Case) portray promising FBI profilers-in-training. Val Kilmer plays their ambiguous instructor putting the candidates through their paces and leaving them for a weekend on a spooky island, where those who survive a terrifying exercise--penetrating the mind of a serial killer via elaborate clues--will go to the head of the class. But the rules change when the students themselves turn out to be victims, bumped off one after another, the survivors half-mad with suspicion and paranoia that the murderer is one of their own. The film's concept is sound even if the execution (so to speak) gets out of hand with problems of logic. Among other things, none of these characters could possibly find time to pull off some of the psychopath's more complicated killing rituals. Quibbles aside, however, Mindhunters is particularly watchable if one is in the mood for a movie that plays mind games. --Tom Keogh

4.0 out of 5 stars A guilty pleasure 8 Nov 2005
Format:DVD
Who could have expected anything from this film? It bombed in the US and had bad reviews, and didn't even make it to the screens in Europe so only rented it out because there was nothing else.
Yet I really really enjoyed it. After a slow start, it just gets better and better, with many neat twists and surprises (the first death got us gasping, you'll see...), left us wondering about the identity of the killer, and thanks to the R rating, had some nasty and gory deaths which were totally unexpected! It's not groundbreaking, but is certainly smart and the tension is kept going throughout the whole film.
Not sure if it is worth buying, but most definitely worth renting at least, I wish I had seen it at the pictures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever and Exciting Mindthriller 10 Jan 2007
By D. Newstead VINE VOICE
Format:DVD
This is an excellent thriller with a very simple tale involving a group of psychologists on an island hunting for a killer. What starts off as a game soon becomes less of a game and more a matter of survival, with such big names that some unfortunately get bumped off much too early making you think that this is going to be a bad movie makes this even better for being a great movie. The means of death and the traps are quite simply brilliant and the twists are great with everyone having a reason to kill each other. Great movie if straight to video.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant! 30 Nov 2005
Format:DVD
I spotted this dvd in the video shop and had never even heard of it, but with all the big names starring in it like Val Kilmer and Christian Slater I figured it was worth watching. It turned out to be the best film I've seen all year. Its an edge of your seat thriller which leaves you guessing as to the killers identity literally right to the end. Fairly scary stuff too with some gruesome deaths. So good that I went out the next day and bought it! An excellent film, I'm really amazed as to why it never made it to the cinemas in Europe! See this film as soon as possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars keeps you thinking all the way to the end!!! 13 Feb 2006

Format:DVD
If you are a fan of psychological thrillers then this film is for you. There wasn't one moment in this film when I was sure I knew what was going to happen. Considering this was something of an unknown film I was seriously impressed. The death scenes are quite gruesome to be honest, and not for the weak stomached, but brialliantly presented and extremeley entertaining. As I said, this film keeps you guessing right to the very end and even when you think you have it sussed it takes another few twists and turns. Definately reccommended and certainly something that will be on my DVD shelf before too long!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brain Drain. 28 Mar 2011
By Spike Owen TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
The Mindhunters of the title are a group of FBI profilers who as part of their training are sent to a remote island to solve a mock crime in a mock town. There mission is to form a profile of a serial killer known as The Puppeteer, trouble is, is that The Puppeteer turns out to be real and starts picking them off one by one.

Directed by Renny Harlin and featuring a bonkers story written by Wayne Kramer, it doesn't take an FBI profiler to know what sort of film this is. Featuring a cast that contains LL Cool J, Jonny Lee Miller, Patricia Velásquez, Val Kilmer and Christian Slater, Mindhunters us undeniably preposterous cinema for the easily pleased masses. Yet it's still hugely enjoyable and isn't found wanting in the ingenuity stakes. The killers secret is closely guarded, thus keeping the Ten Little Indians like mystery going, and the manner of deaths have a morbid freshness about them; with one in particular being outrageously entertaining. A few scenes are neatly crafted by Harlin, who after all is no slouch in the action genre (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger & The Long Kiss Goodnight}. While the swimming pool finale is tight and the killer reveal genuinely a surprise. Yes there's problems abound in the film, but isn't there always in this kind of B movie actioner? The cast do what is required with some pretty naff dialogue, and any expectation about caring for any of these characters should be set at option zero. But it's a nice fit for Harlin, it finds him comfortable in the knowledge that we want whizz bang murder death kill. Thus he delivers. Expectation of anything else is pure folly and one directs you towards René Clair's excellent 1945 film, And Then There Were None, if you need something a bit more solid in your murder mystery diet. 7/10

3.0 out of 5 stars So-So 10 Nov 2008
By Miss K TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:DVD
This film isn't too bad. I hadn't read any reviews before watching the film on DVD and didn't really know what to expect. In the opening minutes, I found myself groaning 'oh no, here we go again, another one of these generic films'. I watched on and about half an hour later, the film suddenly suprised me. Quite gruesome, quite unexpected...

A word of warning though, once the action gets going parts of the film do become a little predictable. The film could have done with having more tension built in and the characters weren't really likeable enough so I wasn't bothered if there were all killed off. This film is not brilliant but the deaths are inventive. In many ways, the film set-up is a bit like House on Haunted Hill or Unknown where you get a bunch of people together in a confined space and one of them has to be the killer. Cabin fever insues as each of the trainees becomes more desperate to stay alive. Not bad & worth a watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing film!
I love this film - it is tense and full of great one-liners. I guess I don't watch it as a serious film, but I always enjoy watching it and it is very entertaining.
