Once you start reading the first lines of this novel, you just can't put it down until you've finished it. The plot is really good, on a background of scientific experiments. The characters are true to life and easy to identify with, and you go from surprise to plot-twist without being able to stop reading.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ms Ooi's latest novel. Her writing style has matured since her first novel (The Flame Tree) and she deftly spins a web of intrigue, both political and personal. The plot twists drew me in - and the play on recent events in the newspapers was highly enjoyable. Delightful characters (with an excellent cameo on page 337)! Highly recommended!
