Product Description

Review

"This excellent and much-needed book does a great job for both clinicians and researchers in a rapidly expanding field.  Drawing on scholarship that is wonderfully deep and broad, it will be a source book for many for some years to come." - Mark Williams, Professor of Clinical Psychology and Wellcome Principal Research Fellow, University of Oxford, UK

"A careful and comprehensive examination of the full range of issues involved in integrating mindfulness into mental health practice, this belongs on the bookshelf of anyone interested in bringing this ancient wisdom into the modern world." - Steven C. Hayes, Foundation Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Nevada, USA

"Mindfulness and Mental Health is an important source book for anyone wishing to develop and understand this approach to mental health issues." - Dr. Christina Surawy, Healthcare Counselling and Psychotherapy Journal, July 2008, Vol. 8, No. 3

"There will be many benefits for students, teachers, supervisors, and practitioners alike from this book. It conceptualizes one of the more difficult concetps to teach and to practice-that is, how to more therapeutically pay attention. It is also helpful in bringing therapeutic concepts from the past, such as the concepts of Freudian neurological memory processes, into the present."

-PsycCritiques, March 11, 2009, Vol. 54, Release 10, Article 5

Excellent for all psychotherapists interested in mindfulness 23 Jan 2008
By G. Delany Dean - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a wonderful book! It is well-written, and it clearly and accurately explains and discusses the Buddhist origins of mindfulness practices, and how they have become adapted within mental health disciplines. Contemporary applications and research are broadly and intelligently addressed. I am a psychologist who teaches mindfulness-based interventions both in clinical and non-clinical settings, and I find the book to be a very valuable part of my library. I also recommend it highly to graduate students in the mental health disciplines as an introduction to the various rationales and ways that mindfulness might be incorporated in their work.

Mindfulness and Mental Health 2 May 2008
By Alaina White - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book gives a good description of the Buddhist practice of mindfulness and discusses its application to the field of psychotherapy. This book would be an excellent primer for any psychology-related graduate or post-graduate student who desires to better understand how mindfulness can be applied to psychotherapy. Author Chris Mace reviews several different methods of incorporating mindfulness into psychotherapy, as well as several scales for measuring these therapies' success.

Mace's other publications focus mainly on psychotherapy and its application, and this book represents Mace's only publication involving either Buddhism or Eastern philosophy. That being said, it is unclear whether Mace has any prior background in Buddhist study or practice, or whether he practices mindfulness himself.
