Product Description

It was raining when Andi left the parent-teacher meeting with her two daughters, and she was distracted. She didn't notice the red van parked beside her, or the van door slide open. The last thing she did notice was the hand reaching out from her and the menacing voice from the past. When Lucas Davenport hears that psychiatrist Andi Manette and her daughters have been kidnapped, he knows instinctively that he's about to tackle one of his worst ever cases. For this time, Davenport has truly met his match - a nemesis more intelligent, and more depraved, than any he has tracked before. A pure, wanton killer who knows more about mind games than Davenport himself.

From the Back Cover

The man who kidnaps psychiatrist Andi Manette and her two young daughters is no stranger – he's an ex-patient, whose chilling mind games Andi remembers all too well. By abducting them to an abandoned farmhouse, he has finally turned his most lurid fantasy into horrifying reality, and now he faces his ultimate challenge: to outwit the legendary detective Lucas Davenport – toying with him at every step of his investigation, taunting him with cryptic clues, luring him from trap to trap…

“John Sandford knows all there is to know about detonating the gut-level shock of a good thriller”
NEW YORK BOOK REVIEW

”John Sandford is a brilliant writer.”
THE GUARDIAN

“A thriller through and through. A hell of a ride, with quirky characters, fine writing and grip-you-by-the throat thrills. Don't start reading this at night …it's impossible to put down”
HOUSTON CHRONICLE

“John Sandford has always known how to twist his readers into knots, and with Mind Prey he's in top form. What begins as a straightforward kidnapping eventually turns into something far more sinister and complex”

Mind How You Go 22 Jun 2007
By Sam
Format:Paperback
There are grisly crimes and there are grisly crimes. There is nothing much worse when a child is abducted. This is what Lucas Davenport and is force of police officers face when a mother and her two children are taken in broad day light. The kidnapper seems to be a twisted individual who is drawn to playing mind games, giving the police clues, but never enough to reveal his whereabouts. Can Davenport use his skills as an investigator and creator of RPG games to get into the head of this dangerously deranged killer?

'Mind Prey' is another Prey novel that follows the template that has served John Sandford so well. The reader knows from the off who the criminal is and we follow both them and Davenport as the chase begins. This style of narrative is very exciting and 'Mind Prey' is a great example of an action crime thriller. The characters, both good and bad, are really well realised and you care about what happens to them. This is not the greatest in the series as it is slightly formulaic, but it is still a great slice of crime drama. Well worth a read.

Predatory 22 Oct 2009
By Mr. G. Battle VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Of the entire series so far, Mind Prey is the meanest. The Prey novels follow Lucas Davenport through a series of encounters with socio/psychopaths and Mind Prey is one of the few that deal with a sexual predator. John Mail, the nemesis in question, is mean. Plain and simple. Furthermore his quarry are women and children and Sandford pulls no punches in his creation of a warped and mentally unstable villain. Davenport as ever, effortlessly sparks wry and enjoyable narrative and the cast around hi1ms paint a story that flows and is easy to believe. Sandford's style rarely misses the mark and in Mind Prey everything hits home, with a gripping story of two men desperate to succeed, both willing to do whatever it takes. Mind Prey doesn't let up and each chapter builds the pressure, ultimately creating a great and suspenseful read. Standalone or in the series, Mind Prey shouldn't be missed.
