Product Description

Product Description

The concept of mind mapping was introduced by Tony Buzan in 1973. Since then it has become a technique used in many disciplines to help clarify thinking, organise thoughts and information, provide overviews of complex topics, and help build mental models. This is a book of mind maps covering general medicine for medical students. It will act as a revision book, provide an overview of the subject, and help the student organise their learning of a subject. This is a book of 140 mind maps covering the whole of general medicine. The maps are arranged in order of body systems; most chapters open with a double-page signs and symptoms map. See the authors preface for further information on the technique of mind mapping and why it will appeal to a purchaser.

From the Author

A framework for learning Medicine and a fast revision aid
MIND MAPS IN MEDICINE provides a review of General Medicine using mind maps to cover the major systems and diseases. Keywords are grouped to focus revision and associations are clearly displayed with no extraneous text. Each disease is presented systematically with appropriate background, clinical signs and symptoms, investigation and therapy. The scope of topics and their relevance is easily appreciated on only one page. The reader can add their own comments to the maps and use colour to enhance the memorability of the topics. The book has the support of Tony Buzan, the originator of MIND MAPS. For over twenty years I have used mind maps for learning and Medicine, particularly, lends itself to mind mapping. We have been delighted to receive comments from students in the UK, USA, and India, and also established consultants wishing to review general medicine have found the book a fast and useful way to do it.

This book is a godsend for those who want to absorb the maximum information in the minimum time. It is quick to use, and organises your thoughts in a clear, coherent fashion. Surprisingly detailed, it contains everything you need to know to give a structured answer to most questions you can be asked: not merely a 'bare bones' text.

Revision aid 11 April 2010
Format:Paperback
This would be better if it was in colour. Thought it would be good for revision but these type of things work better when you write it yourself. Not my best investment but not my worst either. Then again, will never be outdated, cos the basic facts it includes are not going to change. Good for referreing to when need the really basic facts.

This book is both beautiful and revolutionary. It is now a joy to revise, to learn huge amounts of information, free from the clutter of text; its extraordinary. This book is detailed but vast and to the point, covering all the essential systems and clinical scenarios in manageable webs. Take it a page at a time. Soak it up. Light bulbs have been going off in my head all evening, understanding, SEEING the connections between things. Its like having a book of the best revision notes you ever made. Its like viewing the earth from space. Its fantastic. Thank you so much to the authors for being ahead of your time and providing information in this format. I would advise any medical student to buy this, it is well worth your money. It is the kind of book you will learn from but also keep going back to when you want to refresh your knowledge quickly and easily.
