Manufacturer's Description

MindGenius education V2 is for everyone in education, from pupils and students to lecturers, teachers and managers, and for all kinds of educational organisations - schools, colleges, universities and more. MindGenius drives improvement and learning by providing clarity of thought and purpose in whatever task or project needs to be addressed. MindGenius has no "gimmicks". All features are value-adding, and aligned to real life learning and business processes. MindGenius uses the concept of Mind Mapping to stimulate and capture ideas about a subject, with the freedom to organise and re-organise at will, before formalising them in the most appropriate Microsoft, or other, application. MindGenius doesn't only drive creativity - it brings focus to individuals and team work, allowing pupils and students to express themselves, teachers to strive to raise attainment levels, and managers to "get work done".

The 3 MindGenius Essential Features:
1. Type and Return - When entering data you just need to use the Type-and-Return function to build your map. You can add information without interrupting your train of thought and without any unnecessary keystrokes.

2. Drag & Drop - As you are typing or after you have exhausted your brain of all relevant thoughts you may realise there is a more logical position for certain items. Simply drag them to their new location using your mouse.

3. Map Explorer - Mind Maps can grow extremely quickly. MindGenius allows you navigate through your map with ease, no matter how large, so you can focus in on an area of interest without the need for endless scrolling. Map Explorer allows you to switch easily between the big picture and the detail as you progress your task to completion.

Concept
Mind Mapping was created by Tony Buzan in the late 1960's, to help students learn and pass exams. A powerful graphical technique that stimulates and unlocks the potential of your brain, Mind Mapping uses words, images, numbers and colours to help you absorb information in a manner that makes it memorable and helps you to learn. Within education, students have to learn, remember and reproduce vast amounts of information in order to pass their exams - Mind Mapping is an excellent technique to help them do so.

MindGenius is superb for creative thinking, to do lists, and lesson planning. It can be used to build creative maps to use as a 'mapping from memory style' exercise in class, to assess prior knowledge of pupils in any particular subject, to evaluate pupil understanding of a topic, and to engage them in a meaningful way through a very interactive piece of software. I particularly feel, that it saves time, as it allows vast quantities of information to be created in a very short period. As we know, in schools, time is something we are short of, and to be able to use this in a meeting for example, and to walk out of it, press one button and every single action from this meeting is emailed to all attendees with specific deadlines to whatever Microsoft package you are using. We use outlook on an exchange server, and it configured well, into calendars and email to see progress on particular projects.

They also say, its not just a piece of mind mapping software, but 'computer aided thinking'. The reason this applies, is for example, you can type as much information you know about a subject, create a huge map of your existing knowledge, and then say, export direct to Microsoft Word. This way you are working in the thinking, and not typing it up and wasting your time on the deliverables, i.e. the formatting, justifcation, spell checker, hanging indents, tabbing, spacing, thesaurus and overall crap we find ourselves spending all our thinking time 'playing' with... good for creating a presentation, as you can go back after the content is created, export to PP then adjust timings, animation etc.

Overall, very good for simple tasks, and if you invest some time now in learning how to use it effectively, then it will bring long term rewards... Happy Mapping!

I'm a mature student at university and I have dyslexia. I stuggle to write essays and get intimidated with knowing where to start. But Mind Mapping has really helped me. Basically you can start by deviding the essay out into areas that need to be covered and then areas within that area that are relevent and other points that should be mentioned. after this you can then add notes to each part and it has a word count on this programme so you can keep track of where your at with your essay. This programme is one of many programmes that can mind map but I find this is a superior one mainly as you can export the content of your mind maps to any microsoft office programme (word/power point/excel/project and viso) I have used it for word so far but will need it for powerpoint later in my course. Another great function not available of other programmes I found is that you can export tasks to outlook so your prompted to complete each part of your essay. also you can get a 30 day trial on the website to see if it works for you. The reason I did not give this programme full marks was that it slows my laptop down considerably but this could be an issue with my hardware.
