Written by Lynda La Plante(of Prime Suspect fame), "Mind Games" is another cracking thriller, with a strong female lead pitted against a cynical and unsupportive (and male) "support" team, as she tries to understand the psychological links between a number of attacks on women.
This time, rather than leading the investigation, the heroine (played by the magnificent Fiona Shaw) is assisting the investigation - but her unconventional background (as a nun) is further reason for the team to belittle and dismiss her.
The dialogue and acting are terrific (not just from Shaw, but as is typical of La Plante's work, from the supporting characters as well), and the plot - which touches on themes such as Satanism, child abuse and rape (so it's not one for all the family...)- is as intricate and as exciting as anything is "Prime Suspect". A must-see.
