I've only been through this book once so far (in 4 days, a record) but the best way I could describe it is the Google Maps of self help. It's clearly written in simple terms (why complicate), its perfectly set out & it just makes finding what you are looking for (you must be looking for something or why read the book) that bit easier to find. Actually it makes things that simple and uncomplicated you may find yourself slapping your forehead and wondering why you hadn't realised this before.

The mind Calm method it's self is perfect for me. Its a very unpretentious simple technique that can be done anytime, anywhere & by anyone no matter previous experience or beliefs. I have had experience of the technique before so I know how effective it is & how much it helps so many others.

Even after one read its a book that I'll enjoy going back to time and time again. Its not one that Im going to go back to because I struggle with the content & need to understand but because its an enjoyable read that I think will give me new insights time & time again.

There is no doubt that Sandy Newbigging made meditation not just ‘acceptable’ but also accessible to me. Whilst I couldn’t ignore the mounting evidence about its effect on stress levels and health (the initial trigger for my interest), I struggled to overcome the image in my mind of meditation being associated with something vaguely religious / hippie / ‘fluffy’, and even when I did give it a go, I concluded that I was failing by not being able to ‘empty my mind’. Over recent years I have not only experienced the benefits I hoped for, but also many other very pleasant side-effects! Sandy’s approach has always been straightforward, with the revelation of aiming for peace WITH mind being one of the greatest enablers of all. It’s perhaps not surprising then that I had high expectations of this new book dedicated entirely to Mind Calm Meditation, but the book has exceeded my expectations. It is clear and simple, making no demands on the reader to be anything they do not want to be, whilst at the same time demonstrating the potential for the unlimited experiences that can ensue from a regular meditation practice. The book is therefore ideal for beginners as well as anyone interested in gaining new perspectives / insights to support their meditation practice.

Ever since I discovered Sandy's teachings my relationship with my mind has changed tremendously. Sandy explains so clearly the workings of the mind and how to have peace with whatever is happening in your mind. Thanks to Mind Calm meditation I have become more serene, confident and present. Thanks to Sandy's teachings I can experience peace effortlessly right here, right now regardless of my external circumstances.

In this book Sandy Newbigging writes about Mind CALM, his very simple (but deceptively powerful) meditation technique. The same technique was first covered in his previous THUNK book, so I was initially concerned that this book would be basically a re-hash of the old one just re-written for the new publishing company. However this book is a marked difference from THUNK and other previous books, providing a far longer and in-depth and mature coverage of Mind CALM - and meditation in general.

I was lucky enough to be given a pre-release copy of this book to review, but it is so good I will be buying myself a printed copy too.

The book not only covers the Mind CALM theory and practice but also provides a detailed 10-step program (with detailed instructions and exercises) for adopting the practice into your life. It also provides a great deal of useful information on meditation in general, including its benefits and (most usefully I think) lots of information on the issues and "happenings" so many of us face, particularly in the early days of "learning" meditation, which can so easily cause us to feel that we are "doing it wrong" or "mediation doesn't work for me".

Even if the actual Mind CALM technique wasn't of interest to someone (perhaps because they wished to learn a different meditation practice), I would recommend the book for these sections alone. But for anyone wishing to begin meditation, Sandy's Mind CALM technique is a really simple but powerful way to meditate that can be learnt easily and doesn't require many hours, dedicated spaces, special audios or equipment, or any of the other barriers that put so many of us off either continuing beyond the first few attempts or even starting in the first place.

Immediately I started reading Mind Calm I felt the author was speaking to and understanding me. I have used many meditation techniques and read numerous books over the last 20 years. This time it was different, I gained understanding regarding a busy mind, as well as hidden causes I had not thought about before. The easily applied quick cures were refreshing simple and the authors perspective on attachment made sense too. Since reading this book I have used Sandy's meditation and it has meant my sleep has become so much more restful even after waking to go to the bathroom. There is also a really worthwhile section on love towards ourselves which in turn deepens and enhances our loving relationships.
