Product Description

Product Description

The original CliffsNotes study guides offer a look into critical elements and ideas within classic works of literature. The latest generation of titles in this series also features glossaries and visual elements that complement the classic, familiar format.

CliffsNotes on Paradise Lost retells the Judeo–Christian story of creation, in which Milton provides an otherworldly look into the dialogue of God, Satan, and human beings. His subject is Adam′s first disobedience to God and the loss of Eden. This dense classic has permeated and influenced philosophy for centuries.

CliffsNotes concise supplement to Paradise Lost helps students understand the overall epic by providing plot synopses and analysis of each book. Other features that help you figure out this important work include

  • A look into the life of the author, John Milton
  • Glossaries to help you understand Milton′s language
  • A character map to define the relationships between the characters
  • Critical essays about the major themes in the epic and Milton′s style
  • A review section with a quiz, practice projects, and essay questions.

Classic literature or modern–day treasure — you′ll understand it all with expert information and insight from CliffsNotes study guides.

When studying a book I always head straight to amazon to get the York Notes, however could only find this for Paradise Lost, (York notes didn't do one on books 9 and 10 which is what I needed). One problem with this is that it's very vague when what you really need is detailed language analysis and Milton's techniques. Because these notes are on all of the PL books, I only ended up using around 5 or 6 of the pages which seems a waste. I can imagine that for an overview of the entire poem this would do fine but it's got nothing on York Notes and I found that my own notes from class were more detailed than this anyway. Overall, it was useful for the odd overview and character description but not fantastic :/

This proved extremely useful to me when analysing Milton's 'Paradise Lost' as it provided summaries and commentaries for each Book and helped me to understand the story. Everything is concise and it is perfect if you are studying the entirety of 'Paradise Lost' rather than just a few Books. The only problem is that it does not go into huge amounts of detail as much as you would like as it is covering the whole story rather than just one of two Books I thought that was fair enough otherwise it would be too long! If you are studying 'Paradise Lost' or just reading it, I would strongly recommend this book to you.

Excellent Resource 26 Sep 2007
By Rossmonster - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent resource for anyone planning to read Milton's Paradise Lost or for those who are curious about the ideas in the text but who do not have the patience to read the archaic style of poetry.

Furthurmore, it was perfect for me who just wanted to know what all the Milton refrences were about in the TV series "Fallen."

What a great time saver and helpful study and comprehension tool!
I am not a student, but Cliffs Notes is a great way to review a book before sitting down and reading it. It really aids in comprehension.
Deliver time was very good also.
