This broadway show is almost certainly one of the "lost treasures" of the Broadway productions from the 1960's.
Originally produced inn 1965, and among others I believe Barbra Streisand was one of the backers.
And it was not given a fair chance to attract an appreciative audience due to the fact it was taken off in only one week!
There was no "OFFICIAL" Original Cast Album" however there was a pirated version recorded during performances with Leslie Anne Warren and Eliot Gould.
This was only on LP (vinyl) available for a while.
It contains several good "standards in the waiting"
Miss Streisand recording one of them in 1965/6
as "HE Touched Me" whereas in the show it was "SHE Touched Me"
I am not going to say more about it because this Varese Sarabande studio recording although absolutely superb, and well worth the purchase cost. Sadly it is Deleted! And if you like Broadway/West End shows, snap it up while you can.
Incidentally there was never a West End Production.

"I Like Him"...and DRAT THE CAT! 2 Mar. 2005
By Byron Kolln - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This superb studio cast album of DRAT! THE CAT! (one of the most notorious Broadway musical flops) is a must-own. The original 1965 production opened and closed in a week, despite a strong cast - Lesley Ann Warren, Elliott Gould, Margery Gray - though the score was preserved thanks to a bootlegged recording taken during one of the performances. This new recording allows the score to fully shine, and producer Bruce Kimmel assembled a stellar lineup of Broadway stars to perform it. Susan Egan is an absolute riot as Alice van Guilder, the 1890's debutante who moonlights as New York's most nefarious cat burgler. Jason Graae plays Bob Purefoy, the young policeman who falls in love with Alice and attempts to lead her onto the straight and narrow. Elaine Stitch and Jonathan Freeman play Alice's parents, Matilda and Lucius van Guilder. Lee Wilkof, Judy Kaye and Gregory Jbara also appear. The Milton Schafer-Ira Levin score is pure gold. Alice has two juicy numbers ("Wild and Reckless", "I Like Him") as well as a gorgeous duet with Bob ("Let's Go"). Elaine Stritch and Jonathan Freeman have a ball with the blame-laden "It's Your Fault!". Despite it's very brief life on Broadway, it did yield one popular hit (Barbra Streisand's take on "She Touched Me"). This recording begs for a fully-fledged Broadway revival.

I Wanna Do It! 6 April 2000
By "neil16" - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I belong to a musical society (I recently played Mack in Mack & Mabel) so I'm always on the look out for shows I've never heard of. I read the review for this one and after seeing that Susan Egan was in it (who I loved in Beauty & The Beast, Hercules) I couldn't resist. WHAT A FIND! I LOVE this show! It's so witty and clever with some absolutely gorgeous melodies. I'm going to suggest doing it for a production next year...so I hope the amateur rights are available. If you love great musicals in the tradition of 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood' then buy this - you won't be disappointed.

A GREAT SHOW THAT NEVER MADE IT 12 Aug. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I SAW THE SHOW ON CLOSING NIGHT. I FELT SO BAD THAT A MUSICAL FULL OF GREAT SONGS AND A GREAT CAST AND A VERY FUNNY PLAY HAD TO CLOSE. I WAS EVEN SORRIER THAT THERE WAS NEVER AN ORIGINAL CAST ALBUM RECORDED. YEARS LATER I FOUND AN ALBUM OF THE ORIGINAL SHOW MUSIC RECORDED FROM THE HOUSE MIKES. THAT WAS ALL I HAD, UNTIL NOW. WHAT A GREAT JOB THEY DID IN THIS NEW STUDIO RECORDING. I MUST HAVE PLAYED IT 50 TIMES ALREADY. IT TOOK A LITTLE TIME FOR ME TO GET USED TO SUSAN EGAN, WHEN I WAS USED TO HEARING LESLEY ANN WARREN, BUT AFTER LISTENING TO IT A FEW TIMES, SHE IS GREAT. THATS WHAT A BROADWAY MUSICAL USED TO BE LIKE. NICE MELODIES AND FUN SONGS. "HE TOUCHED ME" "DEEP IN YOUR HEART" AND "LETS GO" GREAT SONGS AND THE FUN SONGS LIKE "WILD AND RECKLES" AND "IT'S YOUR FAULT" WHAT A JOY TO LISTEN TO. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING "DRAT!THE CAT" BACK TO LIFE............MAYBE A NEW BROADWAY REVIVAL WILL COME NEXT.

Susan Egan is the best! 2 April 2005
By Paul A. Rundle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Besides the fact that I'm obsessed with Susan Egan, I love Drat the Cat! as it is an amazing musical with truly talented performers. My favorite songs are: Holmes and Watson, She Touched Me, Wild and Reckless, Other Girls, Dancing With Alice, and I Like Him. Okay, so I know that's a lot but it's great. Get a copy while you can and find out for yourself. And if you would like to hear other Susan Egan albums, check out:

Jonathan Freeman is a winner on "Drat! The Cat!" 18 Dec. 1999
By Jason Frazier - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
All the vocalists on this recording perform wonderfully, but I have a special liking to Jonathan Freeman's witty performances. On the disc, he is Lucius VanGuilder, and the song he sings with friend Elaine Stritch, "It's Your Fault" is hilarious in it's own right; "...You spared the rod and spoiled the child -- like rotten apple cores!" -- Funny stuff.
Jonathan Freeman was also the voice of Jafar in the Disney film "Aladdin", and on the soundtrack. He's a promininent performer in the New York area. I actually managed to get a letter to this guy! We'll see what happens. Anyway, BUY THIS CD! He's awesome!
