Product Description

Synopsis

This work maintains that milk is a toxic substance, containing hundreds of different substances, each one having the potential to exert a powerful biological effect when taken independently of the others. Milk contains proteins and hormones, fat and cholesterol, pesticides, viruses and bacteria (including bovine leukaemia, bovine tuberculosis and cow immunodeficiency virus), all combining to produce an array of ailments in humans. It investigates possible conspiracies which may have influenced the FDA and Congress as well as the scientific and medical establishment to deliberately disguise the dangers of consuming milk and dairy products.

5.0 out of 5 stars What happens in the EU post moratorium? 8 May 2000
Format:Hardcover
Robert Cohen wrote this revealing book after researching the whole milk issue whilst gathering evidence to present against the approval of the use of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBHG). This hormone injected into cows and approved for use in the USA increases milk yield. Fortunately the European Union (EU) saw fit to impose a seven year moratorium on the use of rBHG in the EU; this moratorium ends in on 16 December 2002.

What happens when this moratorium ends? In Cohen's words "Some people just do not want to listen". Robert Cohen is so firm in his belief about this that he is currently on hunger strike over the issues involved.

Cohen presents detailed analysis of the evidence he found; unfortunately some of his research was blocked with a statement that "Release of the information would cause substantial competitive and financial harm to the company...".

As Cohen probed deeper and deeper into the issues he discovered that milk is far from the wonder food the dairy industry tells us it is. An increasing number of people suffer allergic reaction to milk and the substantial argument throughout the book is the fact that cows milk is not a natural food for the human race, after all do we see cats drinking dogs milk?

Data presented in the book shows that communities that don't consume milk suffer far less incidence of disease (example given relates to breast cancer). There is the suggestion that Mad Cow Disease is more prevalent in the World than previously believed. There is the overhanging evidence presented in The Times (UK) (23 Aug 97) that a 24 year old vegetarian had contracted the human variant of Mad Cow Disease - Cruetzfeld-Jacob Disease....

5.0 out of 5 stars Milk doesn't only taste bad... 26 April 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I've just finished my PhD in maths. While relaxing I decided to surf in and review this great book. I stopped drinking milk about 3 years ago. I used to drink whole milk because I found out about the chemicals used to get the fat out. Anyway, why keep drinking something that tastes bad and makes you feel 'sticky'. Now I'm leaner, feel better and happier. What more can one ask from a dietary change?

I decided to buy the book out of curiosity and I found it very interesting and informative. I'll give some information contained in the book which can help you even if you don't buy it.

Basically the author started out investigating the difference between rBST milk and 'normal' milk. Well the difference is about %26 increase in IGF-1 for a start. If you haven't heard, IGF-1 is a growth hormone (or Insulin Growth Factor 1 of 5) which can help grow cancers cells as well as normal cells. The FDA says that the IGF is broken down by stomach acids. Now it doesn't take a genius to know that milk buffers stomach acidity, ask mum, i.e., your mum knows better than the FDA. Also tell her that there are numerous publications on the link between IGF and breast and ovarian cancer to name a few.

The shocker is that the IGF-1 content in normal milk is the same magnitude as the free IGF-1 in an adult. So why waste money on steroids?

I perform research in a neuroscience lab at one of the nation's leading medical colleges. Reading Dr. Cohen's book grabbed my attention on several different levels. First, the list of ingredients in a carton of milk: an extensive list of hormones and antibiotics, virus particles, live(antibody-resistant)bacteria, pus, fat, etc. Second, the corruption of the FDA and science as an institution. I was surprised to discover that prestigious scientific journals were used as vehicles (bribed?) to publish results of a pharmaceutical company's highly biased research results (in a jargon-encrypted form). The conclusions of these journals would be cited by non-scientific newspaper journalists, thus giving the conclusions an air of acceptability to the general public. And the practice of "scientists" that work for the drug companies reviewing their own research as employees of the FDA is incredibly unethical. Third, these same publications set precedence for marketing of a genetically-engineered product for human consumption. Forth, a steady stream of multi-media advertising propaganda equal to brainwashing has been going on for decades to sell milk. In fact, milk is strongly implicated to play a major role in heart disease, the nation's number one killer. I was raised on a steady diet of milk and dairy products. If my parents had known then what I know now, I bet that things would have been different. Of all the books I have read in the past 5 years on nutrition, this one has changed my life the most. Inform yourself, you have your health (and life) to lose!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brave work! 31 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
It's hard to believe some of the information that has been repressed that this author bravely uncovers. I've given out five copys to friends and family already and they have all had the same response. "Oh my God, thank you so much for this book."

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get any better! 21 Aug 1998
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Because dairy is used by millions of people, the truth, and nothing but the truth, is imperative so consumers can take educated responsibility for their health. The public has been lied to by the Dairy Council, the FDA and Monsanto Chemical Company as respects the bovine growth hormone, including those who are willing to be "funded" to spread the lie. People like the famed late Dr. Spock tried to tell the world about milk. Now here comes Robert Cohen after years of research and concern for public health, with the courage to tell us the truth and nothing but the truth. And with brilliance mixed with compassion for human life he says it all. This book is the bible of diary and everyone should read it if he or she has thoughts of consuming it or has loved ones to protect.

It took courage to write this book and give the true facts on such a commonly used product. We now know how much the public has been lied by those who are there to protect our health. We are all in the debt of Robert Cohen.
