In the nineties, after a very long run, the series 'Roseanne' finally ended and when it did, TV truly seemed to 'cut the fat' as it were from realism and opted to provide a slew of anorexic, botoxed beauties and pretty boys with six packs. For the longest time it hurt to see on television that fat people were only ever the brunt of jokes, the ones who commit crimes of passion or were only ever used to fill an empty background. People regressed to their high school prejudices and maintained for years that it would never happen, that overweight people had no right to be the focus of a show but finally someone saw sense and brought out this charming series.

'Mike & Molly' brings back what the cancellation of shows like 'Roseanne' had taken away; a reminder that life comes in all shapes and sizes, colours, creeds and races. One of the main themes here is that love doesn't only come to those who are thin and unrealistically good looking: it really comes to everyone. If anything, those of us who aren't a size 10 will be thankful and feel a little better that people like us are being represented as the headliners and not as background characters.

The premise of the story focuses on Molly Flynn (a fourth grade teacher) and Mike Biggs (a beat cop) who meet at an Overeaters Anonymous club. The two are utterly determined to lose weight and find in each other a soul mates who soon find themselves easing carefully into a romantic relationship. The show has several interesting characters, including Molly's younger sister Victoria, a funeral beautician who spends most of her time smoking marijuana and partying, and Molly's mother Joyce who is a modern promiscous woman in her sixties, both of whom leave Molly feeling slightly out of touch.

I love this show, its just so funny.....both the characters in the main role seem to work so well together and the other characters have just gotten better and better as the season went along. It really cheers me up this show and is a refreshing change! The DVD box set is also a real steal at this price for a full length season!

I caught a couple of episodes of Mike and Molly mid-season on Comedy Central and instantly fell in love with it. The characters are so likeable and are very well developed as the season proceeds. Episodes, like so many modern comedies are around 21 minutes long, making this as well as many others easy to watch when you have a spare half an hour. The stories are excellent, actors wonderfully cast and made me laugh out loud every episode. I would recommend this series to anyone.

I love this series and I would recommend it to everyone. The actors are extremely good (particularly Melissa McCarthy) and the characters are SO funny (I love Victoria...she is just SO dopey!!).

My husband and I have a particular soft spot for this show though as we screen tested (reviewed) it when we were on honeymoon in Vegas when they were trying to decide whether to make a full series etc.

I'm still watching the first season on DVD (I have 4 episodes left) but I have to say that I'm not sorry to have bought the DVD. I didn't know the show from TV and was just guided by the reviews (and the fact that I liked Melissa McCarthy in "Gilmore Girls" a lot). I think this show is really cute, funny and I enjoy watching the two main characters living the ups and downs of their relationship. Okay, the fat and sex jokes get a little out of hand at times (and I don't know why they have to refer to poop all the time), but that makes it realistic at the same time. And Mike and Molly seem like well-rounded characters through that. The other characters, especially Molly's sister Victoria (the thin dumb) and her mother (even thinner, ageing, but still pretending to be the hottest women), are very flat but to my mind add to the funny side of the show. Oh, and let's not forget Carl, Mike's work partner, and their hilarious everyday-banter, just like an old married couple! Anyway, it's a good show and I'm looking forward to season 2!

I bought this as I'm a fan of Melissa McCarthy having seen her in several very funny films. I was not disappointed. All the characters are very strong and I have found watching the series completely addictive, just wanting to know how the relationships progress. There are lots of one-liners that literally make me laugh out loud. There is nothing offensive even though sex drugs and alcohol are referred to and represented, it's not at all smutty. I purchased series 2 and 3 after watching just a few episode of series one and have today ordered series 4. I will buy series 5 when available and was delighted to hear that series 6 has been commissioned. If you like a feel good, amusing series to wind down to at the end of the day you won't be disappointed. Better than Roseanne, not as "clever" as Frasier, different to Big Bang, I've never watched Friends as it didn't appeal to me. It's a series that I will watch again.
