I really enjoyed this, as I hadn't seen it for about 40 Years.
The performance that stands out is Mickey Rooney as Puck, all the more impressive when you discover from the commentary that he broke a leg tobogganing during a break in Production and spent the rest of filming in a plaster cast.
Jack Warner allegedly threatened to break his other leg, when he found out!.
A cast of Hollywood Greats, James Cagney, Dick Powell, Olivia de Havilland, Mickey Rooney, an entertaining period piece in every sense.
I had no problem playing it on my multi-region DVD player.

I enjoyed this more than any of the three more recent versions I have watched. Well worth the price and the young Mickey Rooney's performance as Puck was livelier than any other in the role.
I can add little more to B. Chandler's review except to say that, although described as a Region 1 dvd, this plays perfectly on my Region 2 player which usually rejects Region 1 offerings.

Format:DVD
Typical over-acting and hamming it up in the Hollywood version of Shakespeare's well-loved play. A must for fans of James Cagney, here playing 'Bottom' with his trademark swagger and aggression - should be required viewing for students who think Shakespeare is 'too difficult' - this shows it can be great fun!
