1.0 out of 5 stars Breaks all the rules 18 Feb 2012
By Rosie
Format:Paperback
As a writer I've been told there are certain rules you have to abide by to attract and keep a reader's attention: develop realistic characters, a strong story line, don't over-explain everything, let the reader draw their own conclusions, don't keep on skipping from one character's head into another, write interesting, realistic dialogue that moves the action forward, do research into the jobs your characters are doing. Midnight seems to break all these rules. This book shows why you should obey them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shocking 24 Mar 2012
Format:Hardcover
Absolutely terrible book. Full of mistakes and a weak story line. I couldn't bear to read it all so skipped entire sections of meandering rubbish and still the ending was dull. Dont waste your time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Special 3 Mar 2011
Format:Hardcover
Slow but entertaining with a predictable story line and plenty of padding. Some characters have been given unimaginative names. Ideal for a fast reader on a long train journey.

3.0 out of 5 stars average read 6 Nov 2011
By mocha
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have enjoyed reading this book , however it does contain a great deal of repeat reading and feel this was to pad it out to actually make the 400 pages in paperback - it could have been written equally as well in 300 pages - certainly not one of her best books, but an enjoyable read all the same.

1.0 out of 5 stars Midnight Disaster! 6 Mar 2011
By lolly3d
Format:Hardcover
As a fan of Josephine cox I was looking forward to Midnight.

It was absoulutely terrible, the story was weak the characters where confused. If she wrote it once, she wrote in a thousand ways how much Thomas loved Eileen total waffle padding out the pages.

A shame as she usually churns out a decent story. Divorced and Deadly was hilarious.

So no idea what happened here.

I found myself skipping bits out of boredom and repetitivness. The book is poorly edited, with characters names mixed up and mis-spelt words a plenty.

A total waste of money would not recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to her usual standards 19 April 2011
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book for my Mum on Mother's Day as she has always enjoyed Josephine Cox's work.
She felt that though the story was okay, that there were a lot of mistakes - sentences that don't make sense, mixing up characters' names - which surely should have been picked up before publiication.
There is really no excuse for such sloppy editing.

1.0 out of 5 stars One of the worst books I have ever read! 6 April 2012
By Dee
Format:Paperback
I was given this book as a present and looked forward to reading it as Josephine cox was a new author for me. I am astounded that it actually got into print as I believe a child could have written better! It seemed to break every rule of writing and was stuffed full of repetition and cliches. The part where one of the characters was given the good news that she only had 'psychosis' made me laugh out loud!? I can guarantee this will be my last book by this author.

1.0 out of 5 stars Midnight 14 Feb 2012
By mumof4
Format:Kindle Edition
Not a good read. Passages did not make sense, and no build up of characters. It felt like listening to a very boring person prattling on about a poorly remembered memory. Laughed out loud at some of the rushed pages. When one character died, it felt like the author herself didn't even care. Rushed, boring and disjointed.
