About the Artist
A Brooklyn native, Nell recently completed her latest album, "From Midnight On," recorded in New Orleans. Produced by John Hill and Marc Stone, the album includes Neil Young’s longtime drummer Karl Himmel, Joe Krown on B3 Hammond Organ, and electric guitar from Chris Feinstein of Patty Griffin’s "Flaming Red." The new record is a clear reflection of the inspiration Nell found in the soul and jazz of New Orleans.
Nell's music is influenced by her unique childhood. She grew up in an artist’s loft with her father, an impressionist painter, and mother, a classical singer. Nell took her first piano lesson at two years old, and picked up cello at nine. She began writing her own songs on guitar when she was eighteen during a solo backpacking trip to Australia. Nell started to make a name for herself on the Boston live music scene while obtaining an English degree from Wellesley College. She moved back to her hometown of New York in March 2001.
