Synopsis

After his adventures in the Amulet, it's good to see that Derek Adams, Meikle's PI of the supernatural, still has some sanity left.

I didn't think that Sirens was as good as the Amulet but it's still pretty good. It starts well, with Adams very much aware that something is not quite right about the village he is in, and of his charge. However then, for much of the book, it's pretty much a hunt for a serial killer, although the reader is aware of the form the killer takes, and it is only at the end that the real underlying supernatural stuff kicks back in as the book races to an altogether too quick ending.

It's a shame because, without giving too much away, if the mythos that is revealed in the last chapter had been revealed much earlier on, it would've made for a much more spooky tale. However, even having said that, Sirens is still an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to catching up with Derek Adams on his next case.
