Midget is a psychological thriller. Midget is a tiny fifteen-year-old boy who is physically and emotionally not ok. He suffers from the abuse at the hands of his older brother, Seb. Seb abuses him because he hates his brother for the fact that his mother died while giving birth to Midget. The story is set in a fishing village in southeastern England and the ocean is a very important subject in the story. When Midget is sad, he escapes through the back door and he goes to the shore where he watches Old Joseph, who is fixing up an old sailboat. Midget's biggest dream is to sail this boat, wich isn't easy because of his handicap and because he can't swim. When Old Joseph died he left the boat to Midget in his will. But suddenly, Midget discoveres his ability to influence events with his mind, a skill which he uses to do harm to his therapist and to win a sailboat race against his brother. Seb is so furious and he tries to kill Midget, so Midget uses his new powers to cripple Seb. He thinks about killing him, but stops at the last minute. Then he walks out into the sea and disappears.
I really liked the book, and although the subject wasn't easy, it captured me. Tim Bowler is a very good author who knows how to entertain people. It isn't difficult to read so you can enjoy the book to the fullest. I do think that at some point the story is too far-fetched. When Midget discovers his supernatural powers, the story isn't realistic anymore. It's a very good book to relax.
