Good and well researched book,

This is a well researched and richly detailed set of 11 accounts of Middlesex murders from 1802-1941. The author has used original sources to provide the reader with fresh accounts of these cases. Some of them have appeared in the Pen and Sword crime books, but these give far more information. One other good touch is that the author has investiagted the lives of the principal characters for both before and after the cases here, though the author could have used wills to relate how wealthy or not soem of the characters were - such as the widow of Twickenham. The author avoids speculation, but the suspicion that Hadfield was a killer must remain strong.
My only caveats are that we are not given much context about Middlesex nor about crime or detection in these changing times. Middlesex in 1941 was different to what it was in 1839 for instance. And the bibliography could have been better - instead of 'Contemporary newspapers' we could be told which titles were used. I assume The Times, The Middlesex County Times, Middlesex Advertiser etc. But perhaps I am being pedantic.
