Luke Wilson, Giovanni Ribisi, and Gabriel Macht headline director/co-screenwriter George Gallo's fact-based period comedy detailing the rise of the internet porn business in the mid-'90s. Businessman Jack Harris (Wilson) made his living solving other people's problems. Wayne Beering (Ribisi) and Buck Dolby (Macht) were two technological innovators with a plan to make a mint by selling pornography online. When Jack met Wayne and Buck, it was a match made in money heaven. Before long the trio was making 200,000 dollars a day, but it wouldn't last. When a young porn star begins muscling Jack from one side and the FBI starts asking questions on the other, the foolproof plan to get wealthy beyond his wildest dreams becomes an inescapable trap that threatens to break up his family and destroy his livelihood. Kelsey Grammer, Kevin Pollack, Terry Crews, and Christopher McDonald co-star.

Middle Men [Blu-ray]

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Sunday afternoon watching 30 Jan 2012
Perfect Sunday afternoon watching, MM is a light, enjoyable ride.

The story is based on a true story, making millions from a porn website billing business pre www boom.

Yes the film is light, daft, with a zany pair behind the idea, with a cheesy Wilson brought in as the business brain, but it features likeable roles for the other supporting cast members (such as Sherbedgia, Crews and Caan).

MM is thus mostly good if taken at face value(depending on your tolerance of Owen and co) and a brainless, flashy, slick mini tale. View this as a TV mini movie or swanky outing and it should suffice.

The film is from a less known director in George Gallo (Midnight Run).

4.0 out of 5 stars JUST LIKE THE SOCIAL NETWORK 23 Sep 2013
By The Movie Guy TOP 500 REVIEWER
JUST LIKE THE SOCIAL NETWORK except it had more nudity and was far less factual. Okay, maybe it wasn't like Social Network, other than the fact it is more popular, although no one admits to using it. This is "inspired" by a true story which means all the dialouge and most of the characters are fictional. Two genius drug user live together (Giovanni Ribisi plays an excellent paranoid on coke) and can't get any decent porn on the Internet so they decide to create their own web site and invent a program that allows people to pay on line with a credit card. They opt to get new material so they enlist the help of the Russian mafia. Luke Wilson plays a businessman and family man whose narration frequents the movie. He turns their web site into an Internet sensation by allowing access to multiple sites through their billing system.

There is nudity and sex, but nothing that is over the top erotic. Was that Jesse Jane as one of those girls in the background?

The film is front loaded with comedy. The movie starts to drag near the end, in fact whenever James Caan was on the screen, the movie went south. Don't get me wrong, Caan played a good part, it was just boring when he was on screen as compared to the action/comedy/drama going on during the rest of the film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixing business with pleasure 1 Aug 2011
Middle Men is the tale of Mr Fix-it Jack Harris (played by Luke Wilson - Old School) who is drafted in to help two guys, Wayne & Buck (Gabriel Macht - The Spirit & Giovanni Ribisi - Boiler Room) with a great idea but absolutely no business sense. It's 1997 and they've just figured out how to charge people's credit cards across the internet to pay for goods and services, namely, pornography. Whilst the hapless Wayne & Buck get themselves into all sorts of trouble by associating with Russian gangsters and developing serious drug habits - it's Jack's job to keep them on the straight and narrow and ensure that this great idea makes the progression from a quick money-spinner to a multi-billion dollar international corporation. Of course, everyone is clamouring for a piece of the action and as Jack mixes with conmen, gangsters & porn stars he feels his morality start to fade and spends more & more time away from his wife and kids. The FBI have started sniffing around too, alerted by some of the rather dubious content the guys sell. Will he make the right choice and get out before it's too late or will he continue to be seduced by the money and by the industry?

Middle Men is a well-filmed cinematic experience with a great soundtrack. It's shot in a variety of high-end hotel suites and night-clubs, filled with gorgeous women, sharp suits and fast cars.

2.0 out of 5 stars Average 9 Dec 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I'm a fan of Luke Wilson but this was pretty terrible viewing. Story itself is quite intriguing but there are way better films to invest a couple of hours of your life in. I sold it as soon as I'd finished viewing it.
