Continuing his one man revival of St.Louis Americana of the 1920's and 1930's, Pokey and his gang of three have created another wonderful recording. Their debut album had stronger, more consistent material than this follow up, but the performances are great from all the players, so you don't notice the odd bald patch. That being said, there are many good songs and no obvious duds. My favorites are Drinkin Whiskey Tonight, So Long Honeybee, Head to Toe and Shenandoah River. I saw the band play all these songs live last summer - in addition to the first record's output, and they sounded great live.
This is a great band, and Pokey is an iconoclast like no other. Some say an acquired taste - I say, a tasty good old slice of American pie. Eat up.
